Dmitri Popov
I updated digiKam 2.0 beta 5 to beta 6 on Kubuntu 11.04 without a hitch. Nice work, Philip!

Best,
Dmitri

Packages of Digikam 2.0 beta6 and of course kipi-plugins 2.0 beta6
with all the updated goodies are now available on my "extra" PPA for
Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty). If I get time I'll try to update the packages to
2.0 beta6 for Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) this evening for people still
using Maverick.

Remember that Digikam 2.0 is still beta software and not yet meant for
production use. That said you can try out the coming stable features
with all the goodies now all ready. Let the developers know about
problems or crashes with nice bug reports if that is the case so they
can make even better software for the stable release. If there are any
installation or package problem using my PPA on (*)ubuntu then report
that to me.

You find the PPA at: https://launchpad.net/~philip5

If you don't know how to use the PPA with Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) then
visit this link:

http://www.mohamedmalik.com/?p=1019

Happy digikaming!

/Philip

Phillip,

I have no plans to switch to 11.04 anytime soon. I would very much
appreciate a PPA for 10.10

Re: Any interests in Digikam 2.0 packages and digikam PPA?

Philip Johnsson
I have just uploaded packages for Ubuntu 10.10 on my Launchpad site
(wait 1-2 hours after this post to let them build). If you want to
install it then follow these instruction and they are ONLY for
(*)ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) and NOT 11.04 (natty).

http://scribblesandsnaps.wordpress.com/2011/03/09/install-the-latest-beta-of-digikam-on-ubuntu-10-10/

If you use (*)ubuntu 11.04 (natty) then follow the instructions on
this page instead:

Happy digikaming!

Packages of Digikam 2.0 final release and of course kipi-plugins 2.0

Digikam 2.0 packages for Ubuntu 10.04

Willem Ferguson
Philip,

Sorry to worry, but would this work for 10.04 (Lucid) as well?

I tried but was not successful.

Kind regards,
Willem Ferguson

Re: Digikam 2.0 packages for Ubuntu 10.04

Philip Johnsson

That won't work as it need to be rebuilt for Lucid in that case.

First of all Digikam 2.0 depends on the KDE 4.6.x framework and I'm not sure if there is any release of that or PPA with it for Lucid. Then there are a couple of other packages that should be updated too as they are pretty old in Lucid so you get better feature support in Digikam 2.0.

Looks like a network problem when you try to fetch updated source
lists. Check your network and try again with the update and install.

Re: Any interests in Digikam 2.0 packages and digikam PPA?

Philip Johnsson
If you are like me and like to use the latest version of KDE with
(K)ubuntu 11.04 (Natty) and use the Kubuntu teams kubuntu-backports
PPA to install KDE 4.7.x then you also must use my "kubuntu-backports"
PPA to get Digikam 2.0 to work. In my "kubuntu-backports" PPA Digikam
2.0 is built against KDE 4.7.x which also will sort out some
conflicting content files with digikam libs on my "extra" PPA and the
KDE 4.7-packages.

If you use the Kubuntu teams kubuntu-backports PPA to install and use
KDE 4.7 with Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty), and ONLY in that case, then follow
the same instructions as in this blog even though it refers to Ubuntu
10.10 and Digikam 2.0 beta:

http://scribblesandsnaps.wordpress.com/2011/03/09/install-the-latest-beta-of-digikam-on-ubuntu-10-10/

Note: The packages for KDE 4.7 will be available as soon as they are
built on Launchad at my "kubuntu-backports" PPA. Most likely about 2
hours from this post on the mailing-list.

Happy digikaming!

Re: Any interests in Digikam 2.0 packages and digikam PPA?

Philip Johnsson
Looks like there is a BIG problem to port Digikam 2.0 final to
(K)ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) as so far as I can see the Kubuntu team
have removed support for KDE 4.6.x on maverick on their PPA so there
is no KDE 4.6.x there anymore to build against. Without it Digikam 2.0
can't be built for Maverick. :(

/Philip
