OK thanks very much Phillip, that answers my question most definitively.
I have not yet upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 because various comments on the web suggest to me that, in most respects, it is no better than Ubuntu 10.04. Digikam 2.7 should be available on my "extra" PPA also for Ubuntu
11.10 (oneiric) any minute now. Note that I'm not using 11.10 myself so I need feedback if, for instance, there is a KDE update for Ubuntu 11.10 that would break something with the packages. Digikam 2.8.0 is now available for Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) on my "extra" PPA.
https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/extra I haven't tried the packages with KDE 4.9.x and wouldn't recommend using these packages with it if you use the Kubuntu teams PPA for that. I might upload builds against KDE 4.9.x in my "kubuntu-updates" PPA if there is any demand for rebuilded packages. Hi Philip,
I actually installed the updated packages this morning and they seem to be working fine (KDE 4.9). Ray

Good to know it works but the best way would be to use packages built
especially for KDE 4.9 if you use that to make sure you don't get any incompatibility glitches in Digikam because of this. Not sure how much have changed from KDE 4.8 to 4.9 that could effect the use of Digikam. Anyway, have fun! /Philip On Tue, Aug 7, 2012 at 3:43 PM, Raymond A. You only need to add my "extra" PPA and make sure you have reloaded
your repository sources then make a system update as you would with any other updated and you will automatically get all the dependencies that digikam needs and digikam itself. You might also get some other updates from my PPA as updated gimp, kdenlive, etc if you like. Digikam 2.9.0 is now available on my “kubuntu-backports” PPA for
Ubuntu 12.04 and depends on you using KDE 4.9 from the kubuntu teams kubuntu-backports PPA. I will port it do standard Ubuntu 12.04 soon to my "extra" PPA as usual. Hi Philip, Using Kubuntu 12.04-64 bit and DK 2.8.0 from your 'Extra' PPA. Going to add ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports and ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports Now ,the doubts are- 1) Should I keep your 'Extra' PPA selected or deselected? 2)What about "Dependencies: .................... Primary Archive for Ubuntu - BACKPORTS (main, restricted, universe, multiverse) (included on 2011-01-27)" mentioned under 'Dependencies' at https://launchpad.net/~philip5/+archive/kubuntu-backports?field.series_filter=precise As mentioned above, I am on Kubuntu 12.04 with all default repositories and your 'extra' PPA enabled. Many thanks for your efforts. -Jagdeesh.

Hello team,
Sorry but I'm not able to find a package for Digikam 2.9 for Ubuntu 12.04 As I'm not an expert I don't know how to compile. Can you help me please ? Thanks in advance Jean Michel _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Yes you always need the "extra" PPA. My other PPAs are rebuilds with special conditions, in the kubuntu-backport case that you also need the kubuntu teams backported KDE 4.9.x PPA. I should upload Digikam 2.9 to my extra PPA for people not using KDE 4.9 but standard Ubuntu 12.04 KDE packages. Just have been busy with life so I haven't done it yet. Maybe this weekend... /Philip On Sep 20, 2012 9:02 AM, "jag59" <[hidden email]> wrote:

I finally did some work on packages for my PPAs. Uploaded packages of
Digikam 3.0 for Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) to my "extra" PPA and if you are using it with KDE 4.9.10 from the Kubuntu team then also use my kubuntu-backports PPA. I haven't upgraded to any later version of ubuntu yet so for the moment I only have packages for Ubuntu Precise. You find the PPAs at my Launchpad site: https://launchpad.net/~philip5 You also find a bunch of other updates of graphic related applications there...
