Yes, it is only the editor as per my original query. I will take a screenshot during the course of the morning, and put it with a description of the issue.  Thanks, derek

Hi Andrey,

Much as I love Digikam, it is rather disappointing, but I cant change my system, on which so much of my workflow is based for my job, and this is more important than my hobby. I tried that and I wasted a lot of time, and quickly went back to Unity on 16.04.

Is still think this is a bug, but I understand that it is unlikely to be solved any time soon.  I think that if this can't be fixed I will have to go back to a version of Digikam from before this bug was introduced. Using shofoto from the command line doesn't really solve anything, I may as well just use Gimp, and just use Digikam as a glorified file manager and tag editor. The whole point of an integrated system is to have a very rapid workflow. Separate tools destroy that.

Thanks for all the suggestions though.

Re: Missing menus

Apologies. I rarely use the other tools so I had not noticed it. With 5.5, it is also the case with the light table, batch queue manager, maintenance window. It seems to be any feature that produces a child window. Sorry for not noticing that before. d

Re: Missing menus

It's not a child window. LT, editor, BQM, etc.. are new windows created from main digiKam GUI.

As expected, and as i suspected this problem occur for all windows. This is typically a Unity problem, as i said previously...

specially if it works in previous digikam versions. May be there is a
way to test previous version to make clear what patch gives problem,
what is triggering the bug

may be the way the call to external windows is made? where is it in the
source?

the older appimage I find is this

https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/digikam-5.3.0-01-x86-64.appimage

is the bug present in it?

Re: Missing menus

Gilles Caulier-4
By older version you want mean digiKam 4.x ? if yes Qt 4 is used in this version.

If by older version you want mean digiKam > =5.0 and <= 5.4, KDE framework version change.

In all digiKam 5.x, Qt 5.7 is used.

So the bug can be located in Qt5 or KF5 libraries. Both are used to create and manage main windows in digiKam.

Re: Missing menus

Gilles Caulier-4
Bug soud like in Qt5 :

Typically, the way to handle application menu hosted by Unity desktop need changes in Qt5 which as side effects in other WM and vis versa... (thanks Ubuntu to make a puzzle !)

Solution can be to compile digiKam with last Qt 5.8.0 release few week ago, but the version of Qt do not compile under CentOS 6.8 and this will be fixed in next Qt 5.8.1.

Solution can be to compile digiKam with last Qt 5.8.0 release few week ago, but the version of Qt do not compile under CentOS 6.8 and this will be fixed in next Qt 5.8.1.

Hi jdd...

This version (5.3 app image) has no menu at all, not even on the main window. CTRL_M doesn't work.

specially if it works in previous digikam versions. May be there is a way to test previous version to make clear what patch gives problem, what is triggering the bug

may be the way the call to external windows is made? where is it in the source?

the older appimage I find is this

https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/digikam-5.3.0-01-x86-64.appimage

is the bug present in it?

Re: Missing menus

Hi Folks,

I ended up going back to Digikam 4 because I have not been able to do any picture editing for more than a month. But if anyone manages to get an Appimage or .DEB of Digikam 5.X that works with Unity, how can I find out? If possible, please let me know.

Thanks
Derek

Hi
Unity is just a desktop environnement... Problem is not here...
On Debian Stretch, this DK 5 version works fine
Package: digikam
Version: 4:5.3.0-1
Installed-Size: 1760
Maintainer: Debian KDE Extras Team <[hidden email]>
Architecture: amd64
Depends: digikam-private-libs (= 4:5.3.0-1), libc6 (>= 2.4), libgcc1 (>=
1:3.0), libkf5configcore5 (>= 4.97.0), libkf5coreaddons5 (>= 4.100.0),
libkf5filemetadata3 (>= 5.1.0.1), libkf5i18n5 (>= 4.97.0), libqt5core5a
(>= 5.7.0), libqt5gui5 (>= 5.4.0), libqt5sql5 (>= 5.4.0), libqt5widgets5
(>= 5.4.0), libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1), perl:any, libqt5sql5-sqlite,
libqt5sql5-mysql, digikam-data (= 4:5.3.0-1), kipi-plugins (= 4:5.3.0-1)
Recommends: www-browser, ffmpegthumbs
Suggests: digikam-doc, systemsettings
