Cannot see photos!

Dotan Cohen
I just upgraded one machine (Kubuntu 9.04) to KDE 4.3 beta. Now,
Digikam on that machine (0.10.0) does not show the user's photos! I
tried playing with the Include Album Sub-Tree and Include Tag Sub-Tree
toggles as I remember them causing problems before, but it did not
help.

The Collections item shows that this collection is loaded and even
wishes that the user enjoy the collection, alas, the photos do not
appear. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Already reported in this room. look archives.

It's relevant of binary compatibilities not respected with packages
(marble for example)

Thanks. I did see Bart Burroughs post, but I do not see an answer.
Maybe this is because I am using the mailing list and not the "room"?
What is this "room" of which you speak, and how do I get there?

Right. Uh, thanks. I'll get right on that.

issue was "Already reported in this room". What is meant by "room"?

I see. In that case, the question was asked but never answered:
http://www.nabble.com/no-images-in-main-window-after-upgrade-to-kde-4.2.4-to23987862.html

I still don't know what to do, and the wife is breathing down my neck!

I can at least assure you that this is not a kubuntu / kde 4.3 beta problem,
since digikam (1.0 svn) is running fine here on such a system.

In reply to this post by Dotan Cohen
Dotan, you need to recompile / link digiKam against KDE 4.3.
If you installed KDE from an unofficial repo, chances are that digiKam is not
working correctly now, because it is still linked against KDE 4.1.x or KDE
4.2.x.

Check if digiKam is available in this repo, if not you need to compile it for
yourself.

I installed KDE from this repo:

It appears that they do not have a Digikam. Other than building
Digikam (a pain) or reverting back to KDE 4.2, are there any other
options? Is there a Digikam for 4.3 .deb file floating around that I
could install?

Thanks

Dotan:

I saw your problem mentioned in the kubuntu list.....    I am running 0.10.0
on XFCE and it works fine, so I would assume your problem is somewhere in the
KDE world.  Running Jaunty here and have KDE 4.? loaded but never use it.

Thanks, Bruce, it does look like Digikam needs to be compiled for KDE
4.3, but I cannot get to that this week. The linux/wife balance will
be terribly lopsided this week, for sure!

Re: Cannot see photos!

Bugzilla from andi.clemens@gmx.net
Well this is why you shouldn't mix stable with unstable stuff (or officical
with unofficial repos) :-)

If you want to use the latest software all the time, choose a rolling release
distribution like Archlinux (or compile the stuff that is not working).

Maybe there is a newer version of digiKam in the PPA?

Doubly so on the wife's machine!

There is a Digikam PPA, I will experiment with it later in the week.

No need to use this repo, its version of digikam is terribly outdated. Just
downgrade libmarble to 4.2.4. You will lose some extras of KDE 4.3 but digikam
will work again.

Digikam PPA is outdated, but there is Digikam 1.0.0 beta1 in Kubuntu-
PPA/Experimental, therefore it should work. Which version of digikam have you
installed? Can you start digikam from command line and report what it prints
to screen?

This is almost always a problem with the kioslaves, either not installed,
installed in the wrong place, not found by kdelibs, not linking due to binary
incompatibility, old versions lying around etc. (and such problems have indeed
often enough be reported with all versions of digikam in this mailing list)

Thank you! I could not figure out how to do that with apt-get, but I
installed synaptic and after downgrading Digikam shows the photos!

Thanks!

I could not find the 1.0 beta in that repo, I don't know why. I am on
Digikam 0.10.0
