I am wondering now which kde 4.3 beta packages do you use. Can you report back
which kubuntu-ppa line you have in your /etc/apt/sources.list?

I installed digikam from this ppa.
Now I can not see any photos. Before I only could not save EXIF in jpeg.

After changing the package sources and updating, I got the following components:

I could not find the 1.0 beta in that repo, I don't know why. I am on

Can you run digikam from command line (Konsole) and report back the output it
generates?

It seems I will have to upgrade some Jaunty installation to this repository
myself to understand this issue..
