Hi,

there is a free collection of pdfs at
  http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2006/12/new_digital_photo_guides.html
covering various aspects like colormanagement, general workflow,
highlight recovery, black and white conversion ...

Of course, this is adobe centric, but still a lot may be
learned (at least I will ;-).
