Hello,
I have updated my system to a brand new Sidux (Debian Sid) and Digikam 1.0.0. Beforhand I used the Version 0.9.4 and I haven't changed the file-hirarchy of the pics. The question is: How do I get my comments and tags, that I made under 0.9.4 into the new version? best greets and many thanks for this fantatastic program Peter Aschenberger _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
Digikam 1.0.0 should find the digikam3.db file in the directory that you nominated to write the database file and it should create a new digikam4.db database derivd from it. This "just worked" for me (I write all metadata to images anyhow, but videos imported with all tags and comments retained). I will note that it doesn't seem to say anywhere in the readme that digikam will automatically update an older database.

If you have a brand new system you probably dont have the config file of the old digikam which helps finding the old file. I also assume you have already started digikam 1.0-betax once. Then you can change in the setup the database directory to the old file hierarchy. digikam will prompt you about finding the old database, choose to upgrade. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Hi,
I had big problems converting from 0.9.3 to 0.10 as the album properties with comments, tags, date and album thumbnails were lost. Everything else worked. An advice is to keep a backup of the digikam3.db file. I finally managed after a lot of trial and error. For me the trick was to have digikam overwriting the old digikam3 file using the old directory instead of storing it in a new directory. Not sure why! Also, the digikam4.db file was 10 MB compared with 3 MB of the origianl digikam3.db. OK, I have made the first step: Digikam has found the old database and
imported the tags and comments. But the pics are not assigned with the comments and the tags. So, I have all of the metadata but without any connection to the pics. How can I fix that? Or is it a solution to write the metadata into the pictures with the old digikam-version? How can I do that? Because digikam 0.9 always stored the database in the same directory as the pictures referred to. Stores much more information. _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

No other way to find the pictures I have done that and digikam imported the old database, at least partly. But the pictures has no tags and no comments. How can I solve that? How can I store the tags and the comments into the pictures with my old digikam-version ( 0.9.4 ) ? Then they should finally apear in the new version, or not? Configure digikam to write the tags to the files from the database ("Synchronize images with database") in the main menu. This will write tags to Jpegs but won't work for movies or raw files.

I tried that but every times I try to synchronize the image with the database Digikam 0.9.4 crashes immediatly. The information at the console are not very informative: beda@Desk-01:~$ digikam Found dcraw version: 8.83 KCrash: Application 'digikam' crashing... beda@Desk-01:~$ Are there any possibilities to convert the Database by hand? A had exactly the same problem(s) earlier. Using suse 10.3 with a mix of kde3 and kde4 installed. Tried with Sidux with the same problems.
With the help of another thread in this list I opened the sqllite-database and browsed the information stored. It may be reassuring to see the information (both picture tags/date/descriptions AND album tags/date/descriptions) are still there in the database. I was concerned they were entierly lost. After several tries It suddendly worked getting the albums meta data into digikam! Not sure why. Digikam crash when syncronizing pictures and database data may be (it was for me) problem with permissione. Set the permission on the root level and for all sub-directories and files. I checked the option to store the comments into the image and the prog doesn't crash. Can this program store also the tags inside the images? And how can I synchronize all images with the database?
