get rid of dtrash

Hello,

I hate the new digikam feature of having a trash file per album. It
spreads unuseful duplicates all around my archives

Is there a way to remove completely this feature?

Why? I like this feature, it allows second thoughts.
I mark those I really don't like and send them to a  dedicated folder
where the system removes them automatically after one day.

I am pretty sure the suggestion isn't to remove the feature from the
program, but disactivate it for him.

I couldn't find an actual deactivation of it, but you can set the "Del"
key to "Delete Permanently" which might already be enough for your use case.

I find it in the Settings - Configure Shortcuts menu in digikam appimage
- is that menu entry missing for you?

I didn't think of that one. Yes, found

I may also write a small script to remove all the dtrash files

I got also annoyed by this change. It would make more sense IMHO if the
files would go to the usual trash (.local/share/Trash on my Ubuntu
installation) instead, like any other program does.

I'll write a bash script and a cronjob to move them if there is no
better way.

Try scrolling down to the very bottom of the albums list in the left panel.
You will see "Trash" folder there. All pictures I delete from any album go
there.
When you open the Trash you will see 3 buttons at the bottom: restore,
delete permanently and delete all permanently.
Detele all should do what you are requesting.

I use Shift+del as default way to delete images that I really want to be deleted. 

Works as you want out of the box.

I was thinking there was one trash per folder. It's only one per
collection, in fact.

My error come from the fact that I had a collection per year, and many
years. Now that I grouped my albums under only one collection (and links
inside), I have only two trash, one for remote collections and one for
the local ones (work table), much more manageable.

I added the "delete" icon to my menu bar. Doing this I notice that there
is a small difference between digikam and dolphin: in Dolphin I can have
the "delete" option. Depending of the version it comes either when
pressing shift or from the dolphin config and then in addition to trash one

You might also want to try a different approach:

1. Turn on Lazy synchronization 

2. Use pick labels e.g. "Rejected" (Alt + 1) instead of DEL 

3. When done you can filter the rejected images using the search tab in the right panel and delete them.

I find this workflow faster than usual deleting because physical removing files does take some time vs. applying a pick label which is almost instantaneous when lazy sync is ON.

yes exactly, this is the the right reason. The portability. The original KDE trash system used in previous 4.x and 3.x version is not compatible with other desktops...

Thank You all for your advices.  So,  we have to hope that the developers make a Digikam version able to function cross platforms. At the present state it he app is not very useful. What a pity! I'm been working with Digikam and Darktable in tandem and it worked very well.

What a hard reaction! I'm really surprised. There is a big misunderstanding. With my comment, I meant that I was sorry to not be able to exploit Digikam, that I was being using for a while, because the problems that I found, which made the application not very useful for me. Now, with a new installation and thank to the explanations and suggestions of Gilles Caulier I'm using again Digikam that works very well.

You should know that I have a great opinion of the developers and appreciate a lot their work. May be my comment was unclear and my English not enough accurate. I think that your comment is inappropriate and unnecessary violent .
