There is an option "Image sorting order: ascending/descending". I'd like to
have a similar option for albums. This order would apply at least to the album
panel on left but perhaps also to the album list in the main(?) view when
"Group images by album" is selected.

The albums in the main view are already sortable alphabetically using the
submenu just below "Group Images". The albums in the left sidebar are sortable
alphabetically as well, you need to click on the beam with "Albums" on it on
the top. Is this what you are looking for or is it something else?
