digikam 3 bta and libkipi from KDE 4.9

S. Burmeister
Hey everybody!

KDE SC 4.9 was released one month ago and yet it seems that its libkipi
version is too old to compile digikam 3 beta. 4.7 ok, 4.8 maybe, but 4.9 being
too old?

Do you expect distros to ship a libkipi more recent than that from KDE SC 4.9
or will digikam 3 take that long that by the time it is released KDE 4.10 is
out and hopefully recent enough to suffice digikam's requirements?

digiKam 3.0 will require next libkipi 2.0 witch will come with KDE
4.10. digiKam tarball will be published with libkipi as well. Look
GoSC 2012 wiki page for details :

4.10 is going to be released at the end of January 2013. So until then there
is no stable release of libkipi that will work with digikam 3.0.

This states that digikam 3.0 will be released before KDE SC 4.10 releases the
required libkipi.

So distros will have to include an unreleased (from KDE SC's point of view)
version of libkipi if they want to provide digikam 3.0. Leaving alone
providing packages for beta testing.

To me it does not sound like a good plan to require an unreleased KDE version
for a digikam release. Especially since it's not like digikam was a brand new
app in it's 0.1.x versions.

Does digikam at least provide a cmake switch to only build libkipi from its
private libs and not either everything including libkdcraw etc. or nothing?

No. digiKam will include it as well. It will install only binary file,
no headers... We have talk with KDE core developpers about...

You probably remember from Digikam 2.0 that this a situation which won't make
distributions happy... however, let's worry about this when the 3.0 release
comes closer. "Best case", 3.0 gets delayed anyway and coincides with KDE
4.10. :o)

http://www.herqq.org/news.html

"Apr. 17, 2011:

The first alpha of HUPnPAv (0.0.1) is out!"

No News since then but digikam relies on this lib? Are you sure it's being
developed and going to be in a non-alpha state until December?
