Why 0.9.2 is a minor enhancement release ? Light Table is a minor stuff ?

The Wiki question from fred is an important and redondant question. All major opensource project has an user wiki.

This point has already discuted in this room. a wiki hosted in digikam.org will be the hell to drive. A good alternative is to use kde.org wiki :

http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Digikam

I think we most promote this site as well everywhere... Your viepoints ?

Fabien,

Fred, on linuxfr ask where we can find a good tutorial about color management and RAW workflow.

Nicola Vilar has already started it here :

http://linux.vilars.com/dotclear/index.php?2007/01/03/6-color-management-workflow-using-digikam
http://linux.vilars.com/dotclear/index.php?2007/01/08/8-io-files-settings-advanced-options-how-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-pictures

.. of course, since dcraw have been updated to 8.60 in digiKam 0.9.2 these tutorials need to be updated a little.

Nota : these pages are already registered in digikam.org : http://www.digikam.org/?q=about/awards

:)
There's only major/minor. Major is used for new big version (0.8 =>
0.9). It's a pity that we can't choose something more precise.
Anyway...

Yes, I agree. And we already spoke about that a few months ago.

I just check that there's now an anti-bot system. So, we can hope there
won't be too much spam on it.
So, let's advertise !

hmm, shouldn't there be at least a little bit of structure
before advertising?
Otherwise it seems likely that it will grow wildly, from the start.
Maybe one additional level, like

General information:
  - link to documentation
  - handbook
  - homepage
  - etc.

Topics in this wiki:
- Managing images
- Editing images
- Geolocalization (GPS)
- FAQ
- Tips, tricks and scripts

And then there is the unsolved question,
how/when/if to transfer wiki contents into the the contents
at digikam.org and the excellent handbook!

Just my 0.5 cent,

Arnd

I recommend to post a message in digikam-user ML and a blog entry about this subject.

#digikam IRC channel can be dedicaced for help users who want contribute to wiki contents in live

This is not a problem for developpers, because we have another IRC channel for that : #digikam-devel (not yet used, but created a few years ago by Tom)

What about dot.kde.org?

I don't read freshmeat or linuxfr.org but dot.kde is for me the major KDE news
site(?) The amarok 1.4.6 news can be used as an example for a short release
note.

What about dot.kde.org?

AAAAAAhhhhhhh!!!!! the famous dot.kde.org !!!

well, since a long time i can said than dot.kde.org do not promote digiKam like it can do with KDE4 features, amarock, K3b, Koffice, etc... Of course, dot.kde.org is really a good place to read new technologies and programs othed by KDE

The advantage of dot.kde.org for developpers is than all informations are already present to start thread on commits review. The didgest writer just take a look where there is an high activity in svn...

And about digikam, the activity is not NULL !

I have never see a message about the new Light Table for ex. I'm not a very good English writter, but i'm trying to give the essential informations when i commit on svn, especially with url to screenshots hosted by digikam3rdparty.free.fr space.

I suspect than dot.kde.org coordinator _ignore_ digiKam as well... Perhaps they don't use or don't care. For me it's a shame.

If you is not really convinced, just take a look in commit stats archive :

http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-06-24/statistics/
http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-06-17/statistics/
http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-06-10/statistics/
http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-06-03/statistics/
http://commit-digest.org/issues/2007-05-27/statistics/

... I'm always on the top list of commiters. This will be enough to ping diggest writter about digiKam activity. No ?

... or perhaps i'm wrong and everybody don't care about digiKam project...

Another point : I have tried to write an announce at 0.9.0 and 0.9.1 beta release in the pass. I have recieve a negative response. The reason : you can only post final release announce on dot.kde.org...

this is completly STUPID. We need help (test, bug reports, patch, etc) to finalize digiKam before the final release, not after...

To resume : do not ask me to write something for dot.kde.org.. . If somebody want do it, well fell free, but personally, i have no time to lost...

Gilles (who back to port digiKam under KDE4 (:=))))

Well, if the coordinator read this, it won't help :)

A few months ago, we started to talk about dot.kde.org announcements,
they wanted us to give them some informations, look here :
http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/digikam-devel/2006-December/009301.html

We started, but never finish to do it...
If somebody want to continue it, help is welcome :)

on the dot

Allan from Commit-Digest normally only pings on global KDE and now with many
new KDE4 stuff you don't see deeper focus on single apps.

That you see more new about Amarok is only based on their better promotion
capacity compared to digiKam. So, dot is more for link to stories or release
messages but dot itself does not promote.

Ok, I can understand this, when every program want to write a dot news. For
this we have kde-apps.org. But if a digikam (promotion) team member writes a
news "digiKam needs your help - eliminate latest bugs for a solid release"
and some nice written words the dot will publish that.

Or news that could be published on digikam.org first could be relinked on the
dot like (this should be English ;-) :

"digikam wins c't Linux photo suite comparing (far ahead) - One of German most
important computer magazine c't [http://www.heise.de/ct/] has in issue
14/2007 a longer comparison of Linux photo management suites with a focus on
organizing photos and all-day features.
Compared to KPhotoalbum, f-spot, picasa and GThumb, digikam was the only
program that gets a (++) for searching and image editing function. Further it
gets (+)  ratings for importing, photo management and presentation.
Its interesting to note that that digikam could win this review with its
basics as the professional features of digikam 0.9.2 like 16bit/color,
advanced raw handling, color management, geo-data handling or the new light
table comparison tool  were ignored.
This review is stimulation for the whole team that is in the process of
porting the program to KDE4."

You could also ask c't if you can publish the test as scan or pdf on digikams
website?

Its ok, coders are often not the best promoter ;-)
But Fabien seems to like this stuff :-)

I like the text a lot; maybe something like
"The digikam team would welcome help in porting and fixing bugs
and implementing the various feature wishes made by users
  in the B.K.O."
should be added at the end.

OK, I defaced the digikam wiki,   ;-)
  http://wiki.kde.org/tiki-index.php?page=Digikam
please add whatever you think is necessary before we make
the announcement and then see how it develops.
((Presently it does not look fancy, but that's ok for me,
only the main digikam page should look cool ;-))

Thorsten,
should I put this on digikam.org (which would mean, I think,
to put it in my blog, and then make it appear on the front-page?)
Somehow I would feel better if you would do that
(because it is *your* text!).
