digika on gnome gives unsharp photos

ctammes1
Hi,

I have Digikam installed on Ubuntu 10.04 (Gnome) and my photos are not as sharp as when I use F-Spot or the viewer Eye-of-Gnome.
When I use the same photo, both F-Spot and Eye-of-Gnome are good, but for some reason Digikam looks terrible.
Can this be because Digikam is written for KDE?

No (:=)))

Give us some screenshot to compare.

which image format exactly ?

Which digiKam version you use. Go to Components/info for details.

I ran into something similar to this and for me it turned out to be the embedded
preview setting.  In settings under the Album View tab, check to see if the
"Embedded preview loads full sized images" option is set.  I turned it on and
things got much sharper for me...

Well, this is a screenshot of the same photo in Digikam, Eye-of-Gnome and F-Spot. The photo is from Steves Digicam: http://www.steves-digicams.com/camera-reviews/fujifilm/finepix-xp10/DSCF0081.JPG. It is shot in 12Mb Fine 200 ASA.
What I do not understand is why it is displayed unsharp in Digikam. Any suggestions are welcome.

P.S.
I use Digikam 1.2.0 as supported by Synaptics. I know the latest version is 1.5.0, but it is not yet in the repository.

Looks like you are using the reduced size preview for faster preview.
You can disable this in the settings.

Johannes

You are right, that was the problem. I saw the tag "Reduced Preview" before, but never realized what it meant.
I just installed the Kubuntu desktop to see if that would make a difference, but it doesn't, off course.
Your suggestion did, thanks a lot!
