[digiKam-users] Unable to upgrade to the Latest Digikam 7.0.0 version

Hi

Am on Linux Mint 19 based on Ubuntu Bionic .

My current Digikam version is 5.6.0

I cannot find any way to upgrade to the latest version 7.0.0. It does not show up in the repos, nor are there any official ppa's

Advice please

Advice: be patient :)

The release date given by the development team is for the source code, not for
repositories.
Such repositories are maintained by third parties, and the Digikam developers
have no relation with them, and no influence on when they will pick up the new
version. So packaging for your distro usually takes some time (from days to
weeks, depending on the distribution/packager).

In the mean time, you could try to grab the appimage or flatpak. Those are
(afaik) prepared and maintained by the digikam developers.

As a Mint user, you will probably have to switch to the AppImage or similar.
Remember digiKam-5.6.0 is 3 years old, in between there were 8 stable
versions. Calculate when Mint is at digiKam-7.0.0.

You could upgrade to Mint 20 which if it is the same as Ubuntu 20.04
comes with DigiKam 6.4.0.

You could upgrade to Mint 20 which if it is the same as Ubuntu 20.04
comes with DigiKam 6.4.0.

I've been using Mint and DigiKam for a long time.  Just download the AppImage, edit the properties to allow it to run, and that is it, it just works.  I am currently on Mint 20 with DK 7 AppImage working fine

But you DO need to make it executable. In Dolphin, right click on the file, left click on Properties, left click on Permissions, left click in the box in front of Is executable and left click on OK. Then just click or double-click on the name of the appimage file and it should run.

    chris$ ./digikam-7.0.0-x86-64.appimage
