I want to thank you for creating, maintaining and enhancing digiKam. I have been using it for several years and find it very useful for organizing and editing my photos. Thank you very much. Jack Marxer |
Hi,
Thanks for you feedback, it's always a pleasure to read this kind of message My Best Gilles Caulier Le ven. 14 févr. 2020 à 13:18, Jack Marxer <[hidden email]> a écrit : > > I want to thank you for creating, maintaining and enhancing digiKam. I second Jack's message. The most impressive thing that the open source software beats most of it's closed-source and proprietary counterparts. Thank you Gilles for all your efforts. On Fri, Feb 14, 2020, 7:33 PM Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> wrote: Hi, |

I agree. I couldn't live without Digikam.

Hello digiKam-Team,
I want to join the praise choir: Thanks a lot for all the great work, you put in the digiKam-Projekt. Just checked some of my old photos: The oldest ones carry "digiKam-1.1.0" in their metadata. Those photos are from 2009. So digiKam is my tool of choice to handle photos on my linux machine for over 10 years! You are great. Thank you all! I've checked mine, and some have digiKam 0.9.1 (March, 2007) or 0.9.2 (June, 2007)... That's a lot of years using nothing but Digikam to manage my images. Thank you all! Pedro |
Thanks to all for your feedbacks...
Just few words to details a plan for the future deployment. * Under Windows, we enable, hack, and try tp finalize the Microsoft Visual C++ support. All the code already compile in the continuous integration : https://build.kde.org/view/OS%20-%20Windows/job/Extragear/job/digikam/job/kf5-qt5%20WindowsMSVCQt5.14/ This stage is mandatory to be able to publish digiKam in the Windows Store as an official package ! The second stage is have the binary factory working fine to compile the package. For the moment it do not work, but we working on. https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/Windows%2064-bit/job/Digikam_Nightly_win64/ KDE has a generic windows Store account that we will use later to post official stable release. I hope to see the final 7.0.0 published on store. * Recently, Apple open the MacOS store to a free of charge for organizations. So we can plan a similar publication of digiKam in this store later. https://developer.apple.com/news/?id=02032020a My Best Gilles Caulier Le sam. 15 févr. 2020 à 14:40, Pedro Neves <[hidden email]> a écrit : > > On 15/02/20 19:05, Peter Albrecht wrote: > > Thanks a lot for all the great work, you put in the digiKam-Projekt. > > > > Just checked some of my old photos: The oldest ones carry "digiKam-1.1.0" in > > their metadata. Hey, While I see that you are looking at getting this in the Microsoft/Apple store, will this mean that at some people we won't be able to download and install like we do today? I am sure that there are people out there (like me) who dislike the Microsoft store. No. weekly build still exists in all cases.
The store publications are only for stable releases only. For the M$ store, we MUST compile digiKam under MSVC. We cannot publish binary cross compiled as it done today under Linux. Also the tool to build UWP package for Windows platforms exist only under Windows with MSVC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Windows_Platform I see one advantage to build under MSVC : code consolidation everywhere. this compiler report errors and warnings that G++ or Clang never report. Else compiling under windows is complex and slowwww...
