[digiKam-users] HEIC support?

I saw a few bug reports filed for HEIC support, but they seem to have dead ended about 8 months ago.

Are there plans to support HEIC? I see that HEVC is supported, but from what I can see, HEIC isn't supported as of yet.

While I'm at it, are there any plans to support AV1 and the AVIF image format?

Hi,

HEIC support will be introduced using ImageMagick codecs, introduced with next 6.2.0 release.

Currently Linux integration is done. Windows and MacOS support is not yet finalized.

In all cases, ImageMagick  non free codecs need to be used (tainted).

Hi,

HEIC support will come in native with next 6.4.0, including metadata support. Please be patient (:=)))...

And it will work everywhere : Windows, MacOS, and Linux...

6.4.0 pre-release can be tested here :

Windows and MacOS are up-to Date, not Linux AppImage

I agree with supporting open source royalty free (as AVIF) formats, so I
would prefer to be able to open AVIF and AV1 files before give priority to
private formats (HEIC is reinventing the wheel, as always Apple intends).

The HEIC support will use libheif library. This one is extensible by plugin. HEIF is just a container in fact and it can support HEVC image and also AV1. The plugins for non HEVC format are under construction as i see, but in all cases, support for other formats will be automatic.

   I can't see this Image Loader Tab on my digikam. Is it from the new version ? I thought my Digikam was already loading HEIC files.... I'll take a look.
