[digiKam-users] FYI: installation succeeded, program failed to run

James Orr-3
Well, optimism reigns. Success is still in the wings.
The install of 7.0.0-rc for Win 64 did complete. When I actually ran the program, I got four error messages.
The code execution cannot proceed because *.* was not found:
  • libdigikamcore.dll
  • libdigikamdatabase.dll
  • libdigikamgui.dll
  • libgcc_s_sch-1.dll
I looked in the bin folder and the missing files were there.
So I reinstalled 7.0.0-beta2 and will not reinstall until there is a 7.0.0-beta3 or the full release later in the year.

I sincerely wish each of you, your family, friends, contacts, community the best of health in these times of pestilence and disease. There is no foreseeable end to proximity-distancing, and with that a concomitant need for social glue.

I had a similar issue when tried to open a HEIC file with Showfoto from File Explorer although there was no error if I opened Showphoto first and then opened the file from there.

I had moved the *.DLL files to the bin directory in the installation some time
ago in order to tidy up the installation. So far there have been no problems.
But we can undo it.

Maik,

in qt.conf file, prefix path need to be adjusted :

https://invent.kde.org/kde/digikam/-/blob/master/project/bundles/mxe/data/qt.conf

https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qt-conf.html

I played a little with the options that Qt Doc also provides. So far no
solution. ShowFoto starts via the desktop shortcut, but not via open with...

Re: FYI: installation succeeded, program failed to run

I am woindering what is the latest version that didn't have that bug
(showphoto won't open via open with menu). Is that beta2 or was there a
weekly snapshot between beta2 and beta3 ?

I can't use beta3 currently because showphoto is the only program that opens
HEIC files for me.

Use the current digiKam-7.0.0-RC version. Your problem is solved here.
