Re: digiKam Software Collection 2.8.0 is out...

Gilles Caulier-4
Thanks Clive,

As i don't said in this mail, We working hard to 3.0.0 release planed
at Christmas, where we will introduce new tools, as video slideshow,
DLNA export. Video metadata have been introduced through Exiv2, a
student work on Face recognition, and another one to revamp camera
interface. The first 3.0.0 beta will come in September, if project
progress is fine.

We plan another 2.9.0 release before 3.0.0, as another bug-fixes release...

Best

Thanks and really appreciate all your efforts on this Gilles, it's
always good to know that a project team has plans for the future and
plenty of ideas.

Will also keep an eye out for the Windows package of 2.8.0...

Thumbnail window is alway empty

Wolfgang Strobel
In reply to this post by Gilles Caulier-4
I have installed Digikam 2.7 under Windows XP.
I can Import some Folders as Collections to Digikam and I can see the
Thumbnails in the Thumbnail-Window.
When i am add a new Collection to digikam Albums, after the Import in
all Albums there are no Thumbnails in the Thumbnail-Window.
I can open all Folders in all Albums, but no Thumbnails in the
Thumbnail-Window are visible.
At the first Time i have importet folders with 700, 798, 1420, 587,
4203, 2869 Photos as Albums.
After the Imorts i can see the Thumbnails.
After import the next Folder with 5115 Photos, in all Albums the Windows
with the Thumbnails ar empty.
The Function Rebuild Thumbnails has also no Effect.
I am only import Pictures, no Videos.
After closing Digikam the Processes dbus-daemon.exe and a lot
kioslave.exe are still running with no CPU-Usage.

Is possible to test the Import of the Thumbnails from the commandline to
become some helpful Back messages?
This Effect was also same with Digikam 2.5 and Digikam 2.6.

What can i do that all the Thumbnails are visible?

Wolfgang

Re: Thumbnail window is alway empty

Steph Google
In reply to this post by Wolfgang Strobel
Hi,

I have the same problem with Digikam 2.7.0. I'm under Windows XP SP3 and
I use installer from sourceforge
:http://sourceforge.net/projects/digikam/files/digikam/

In order to have log message I use DebugView from Microsoft :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647.aspx
Thanks to this bug report : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297793
(comment 6,9)
I have also this bug : the preview or slideshow failed to show some
random image with the message :
[34696] digikam(34696)/digikam (core): Failed to allocate chunk of
memory of size 12582912 bad allocation
or
[75968] digikam(75968)/digikam (core): Failed to allocate chunk of
memory of size 106555200 bad allocation
This bug appear only if there is a lot of image in digikam. (all my
small folder for example : 2428/1.4Go, 1191/2Go, 2665/2.1Go, 1230/2.4Go,
1228/2.2Go)

For the thumbnails bug (Before each try I delete digikam4.db):

First try :
1) Import  5 small folder (2428/1.4Go, 1191/2Go, 2665/2.1Go, 1230/2.4Go,
1228/2.2Go) =>  thumbnails are ok

2) Import the big one (3653/17.7Go) => failed during import
extract from DebugView Log :
[70664] digikam(70664)/digikam (core) bool __thiscall
Digikam::DImg::load(const class QString &,int,class
Digikam::DImgLoaderObserver *,class Digikam::DRawDecoding): "D:/Mes
documents/Mes images/09/test export jpeg/IMG_0472_10.JPG" : JPEG file
identified

KCrashBackend::constructCrashedApplication(void): Executable exists: true
[73564] drkonqi(73564) bool __cdecl DrKonqi::init(void): Enabling

3) When I restart digikam there is no Thumbnails.
4) If I click "Rebuild Thumbnails ..." nothing append and I have this Log :
[93752] QThread::start: Failed to create thread (Code d'acc?s non valide.)

Second try :
1) Import the big one (3653/17.7Go)  first => thumbnails ok
2) Import the small folder in reverse order of the 1st try : digikam
crash during the last import (2428/1.4Go)

4) If I click "Rebuild Thumbnails ..." nothing append and I have this Log :

Under Windows 7 x64 with the same photos and digikam 2.7.0 I have the
same problem with little difference :
First try :
- At the 4th folder thumbnails ok but the preview bug appear
- 5th folder import ok ( thumbnails ok / preview fail)
- I can't import the big folder, when I click on "Add collection"
nothing append with log :
QThread::start: Failed to create thread (Code d'acc?s non valide.)
and I have a process "update-mime-database.exe" in state "Suspendu" in

Second Try :
- Preview bug come with the 3rd small folder after the big one.
Thumbnails ok
- Unable to import a new collection (no window)
- After I restart the computer the window "Choose the folder containing
your location" appear but all icon are black square !
- Finally the import fail and Digikam crash.

I would like help to debug Digikam under Windows because it's a great
software and I have start tagging my photos.
What's the best way ?
- fill the existant bug #297793 for the preview ?
- fill a new bug for the import ?
- wait the installer for digikam 2.8 ?
- try to build digikam 2.8 ?

Stephane
