Dear List,
I have recently migrated my 15 GB photo archive to Digikam, a mammoth task, and have finally ended up with a manageable, usable and searchable photo archive! Thanks to all developers! However, next subject on my list of ToDo to organise my computer is Version Control. My application of choice is Subversion and in exploring the possibilities within realise this is exactly the feature I wold also like to see for my photo archive! I.e. get all originals organised in the database, and then edit the photos at will with e.g. Gimp to improve them, and still have an easy overview of versions so that the originals are always readily accessible! Now, I am sure this is not a new idea, so thus I am asking the list, what previous experiences and ideas exist on this? Have this feature been considered for inclusion in Digikam, and if so what is the current view (feasible or not?) and status? (If it is already there, I will look like an idiot asking this, but if so please at least point me in the right direction!) Also, have anyone done this before and have any helpful advice on what to think about etc.? E.g. complications with versioning, include database file or not in revision control? Very thankful for any ideas / links / comments on this! Thanks, Mattias Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection. Hi Mattias,
Nothing is done really about versionning. We have talking about and we plan to work seriously on this tiedous subject when Qt4 port will be complete and when MySql port will be ready to use. The story is there : http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=142056 http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125387 Best Gilles Caulier 2010/2/10 Mattias Carlsson <[hidden email]>: > Dear List, > > I have recently migrated my 15 GB photo archive to Digikam, a mammoth task, > and have finally ended up with a manageable, usable and searchable photo > archive! Hi all:
I was wondering if there is a way to add custom information (like a title, the name of the album, location, etc) to the output of the print assistant. I looked through the options on the Print Assistant, but the only thing that resembled what I had in mind, was to add this information as a caption to one or all the pictures. Thanks in advance: Pedro Neves _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

There seems to have been a huge amount of discussion about this in those requests. My workaround for the time being is to simply add suffixes to the names of any versions I create. E.g. if the original is called IMG_3877.JPG then you could have:
IMG_3877.JPG IMG_3877-01--vertical crop.JPG IMG_3877-01-01--reduced for email.JPG IMG_3877-01-02--monochrome.JPG IMG_3877-02--horizontal crop.JPG When sorted by name, this keeps them in an order that shows which image has been derived from which (e.g. -01 and -02 are from the original, -01-01 and -01-02 are from -01, etc). Note that I had to use a double dash to add a description, or the sorting would be wrong. > -----Original Message----- > From: Gilles Caulier [mailto:[hidden email]] > Sent: Thursday, 11 February 2010 7:44 AM > To: digiKam - Home Manage your photographs as a professional > with the power of open source > Subject: Re: [Digikam-users] Version control of photos in Digikam? > > Hi Mattias, > > Nothing is done really about versionning. Hi,
pretty hacky workflow, isn't it? I won't buy into looking at all versions of all pics in a folder, and don't want to missuse stars for that. Gill, Great that versioning is on your todo list. I'm longing for non-destructive editing in raw pics. That's normal in movie and audio editing, and there are a couple of apps like bibble etc for graphics as well. It's my number one itch with gorgeous digiKam. Dan _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Hi there,
Version control would be wonderful. I believe digikam already has a feature to detect duplicate copies of the same photo. Perhaps this can provide some of the work for version control? Just an idea. Cheers! Vivek On Wed, Feb 10, 2010 at 3:43 PM, Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> wrote:

But duplicates aren't really versions, are they? The
kinds of versions I'd like to control are always different - cropped, resized,
etc.
