Update images when external file is created

Erick Moreno
Hi guys,

My workflow includes some editions using external programs (usualy gimp) while I'm selecting and rating images.

The problem is, when I save a new file from the external editor on the same folder I'm working, digikam don't recognize this image imediatly (like it does when I create a new file using showphoto). I need to press F5 to force digikam to rebuild ALL thumbs and finally be able to tag or do any work with the new file inside Digikam.

When working on folders with many (2k) imagens, this task takes some minutes in my machine and is really annoing.

So, there is any faster way to make Digikam recognize new image inside the folder I'm working? Why is so different create a new file with showfoto and any other external program?

Thank you guys.

What OS you are on?
Also I think the checkbox "Rescan after changes were made" will help.

I recall having same problems in Windows long time ago but I don't think it happens on Linux. Or maybe my workflow just changed...

I think it is in Settings in Metadata.

It's same section where Lazy synchronization is.

Sorry I am not in front of my computer right now.

I marked "Rescan file when files are modified" but nothing changed. I still need to press F5 to see the new file inside digikam.

What I really whant is a way to "Find new items" without rebuild all thumbnails. I'm the only one with this issue?

Thank you guys.

Re: Update images when external file is created

The only way to avoid all the effort to rebuild tumbs and still see the new image on Digikam is:

- Press F5
- wait the finding new items process finish
- when the rebuild tumbs process start
- stop it.

Is cumbersome, but is better than wait 4 or 5 minutes to a complete rebuild on the folder.

Devs, there ir no way to separete de "refresh" action in two independent steps: Find new items and rebuild thumbs?
I that way I could press F5 if I want a full refress or something like Ctrl + F5 if I just want that digikam look for new items.

Thanks

Weird. I don't have to press anything. If I export anything from darktable to jpeg, the image shows up in digikam as soon as the jpeg created. No rescan required.
