Thumbnails update

TransFXB
Hello forum, hello developpers,

This is my first post in this forum.

I use Digikam in Gnome environment (Gutsy 7.10) and I have several questions.

1) I have noticed that only thumbnails that are visible in the windows are updated/displayed, not the others until you scroll up or down.

Why not continue updating as a background task the others that are not visible?

2) As told in the header, I use Digikam in Gnome environment.
I am not 100% sure, but it seems that Digikam does not use ~./thumbnails to as a proxy cache.
Each time I click on a folder in Digikam, it seems that thumbnails are rebuilt from scratch.
Is it true/possible?

3) I would like to be contacted by Gilles if possible. I have something special to ask

Hello forum, hello developpers,

There is already a report about this subject in bugzilla... its in my TODO list.

wrong. dgiKam use ~./thumbnails following opendesktop.org paper (like konqueror for ex.)

Each time I click on a folder in Digikam, it seems that thumbnails are

it's a right acess problem on ~./thumbnails ? This folder content changes ?

3) I would like to be contacted by Gilles if possible. I have something
special to ask ;-)

Send me a mail in private if you want:

Re: Thumbnails update

Thanks for this quick answer Gilles.

I have omitted to indicate that my original files are located on an ntfs separate drive (not external) that I was using when I was using Windows XP. I have not duplicated the original files into Linux system.
Could it explain the fact that thumbnails are rebuilt eachtime? And that ~./Thumbnails seems to be not used for caching?

Please, tell me indication about what I should check.

Gilles, I have sent you a mail for my specific question.

Not a programmer so I may be making some things up but:

That was the case in the beginning but thanks to some Qt quirk it wasn't
possible to *stop* caching at some reasonable moment and whole album
thumbnails would be cached. The result was often significant slowing of
machine due to memory usage. Following popular request caching of
invisible thumbnails was switched off.

I hope situation changed and in future (as of 0.10 series) caching would
be possible.

m.
