Hi all, I have a collection on my local hard disk where all pictures come in from the camera. This is the place where I filter, prepare, tag and star rate my pictures. From time to time I copy albums from the local disk to a collection on a external usb-disk. This has been fine over years but now I realized I lost several months of star ratings! All star ratings just disappear when moving an album from the local hard disk to the external hard disk. I do this via digikam's move in the GUI. On the console I do not see any errors. I reproduced this behaviour with the app-image of 5.7 but I am sure it goes back several versions. I still use the sql-lite backend. My overall number of pictures is quit huge, > 300.000.I suspect a technical issue. On the other hand would it be a good idea to change my workflow? Thanks Tonio |
Hello Tonio Please specify the image format you use. Also what are your metadata read/write and sidecar settings ? https://docs.kde.org/trunk5/en/extragear-graphics/digikam/using-setup.html#using-setup-metadata Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone. -------- Original message -------- From: Tonio Kroeger <[hidden email]> Date: 2017-10-29 12:12 AM (GMT-07:00) To: [hidden email] Subject: Star ratings get lost when copying albums from one collection to another? Hi all, my first mail somehow may have sounded a little rude. To make it clear, digikam is the greatest tool on earth! I enjoy it for more than ten years now.On Sun, Oct 29, 2017 at 2:05 PM, Andrey Goreev <[hidden email]> wrote:

I checked the rating check box under "Configure" -> "Metadata" -> "Behavior" "Write this information to the Metadata" For the first albums I moved the ratings are copied. I played around with the checkbox as I did not really get what the actual idea is behind it. I am lost. I will have another try s soon as I have new test data... - Tonio On Tue, Oct 31, 2017 at 1:59 PM, Tonio Kroeger <[hidden email]> wrote:

Tonio It is clear from the first screenshot (Behavior tab) that you did not check the proper box "Rating" there. Without that digikam writes the information to the database (.db file) only and probably this is why it gets lost when you copy the files outside of the collection. I have all of them check if that matters.
