Release 5.8.0 before Christmas ?

Gilles Caulier-4
Hi all,

I see Maik working hard to progress quickly with Mysql migration tool plus a lots of fixes everywhere.

I'm currently busy at work with hard projects with students, and i'm also back to teach on the evening.

But i'm more available now, and perhaps we can try to release 5.8.0 in few days. I set the date to Sunday 17 December. Sound like acceptable ?

Note : the Enhance/Healing Clone editor tool need to be fixed or at least disabled for this release, as it's not really yet suitable.

Your viewpoint is welcome

Hi all,

I agree that digiKam-5.8.0 is under the Christmas tree. ((:-))
I also look at the Enhance / Healing Clone editor tool again.

Re: Release 5.8.0 before Christmas ?

Gilles Caulier-4
Hi,

To write a release announcement, i need a list of new features and main fixes with some descriptions and if possible some screenshots.

I will base the announcement with the current NEWS file :

I'm sure that some entries are missing here, for ex, with Mysql support fixes.

Re: Release 5.8.0 before Christmas ?

Maik Qualmann
Gilles,

another question is, are we activating the Healing Clone tool in
digiKam-5.8.0? I fixed a few problems. It does not use zoomable view at the
moment. This change is more extensive. I will change that into the next
version. Otherwise, I will not make any major changes until the release, but
will do intensive testing.

Well it's simple : If it's suitable (even if it still basic), we can, else we have a risk to receive more bug reports about this feature.

I'm sure that zoom support is fondamental for this tool in the future. I don't yet take a look how the current implementation is enough advanced as well to be ready for production.

Re: Release 5.8.0 before Christmas ?

Gilles Caulier-4
Maik,

I just tested the tool. Basically, it work, even if zoom is not supported, but without a low level history support, it will be complicated to use it. typically, CTRL+Z and CTRL+SHIFT+Z must be available to revert or not previous patches in the current tool session, as under gimp. Without zoom and history support, this tool will be hard to use in produciton.

Another point is the preview of circular brush over the canvas. currently, we are in blink mode while operate the pixels corrections.

Yes, undo after every drawing step is important. I think it's better to not
activate it for digiKam-5.8.0.

What do you mean by "blink mode"? Blind mode?
Yes, the size of the drawing brush must be recognizable.

yes, blind, not blink (:=)))

In fact, you cannot see exactly where you will patch bitmap over the canvas when you move the mouse.

I tried to contact Nicolas to build the tarball release while this week end, but he is not available by mail or IRC, probably in vacancy.

I'm not at home for Christmas until 27 December. I go back again in French Alps for end of year, and i'm back in 2 January.

I will try to prepare the release announcement while my first travel (to Paris), in the way to build the tarball myself, tag git, build all bundles, and post files in Phabricator for publication in download area. This want mean a possible publication just before the end of year.

Note : there is not an unique script to build the tarball. There are many to run to checkout right code, chechout translations, and documentation. The tarball must be cleaned of all git admin files too. I will try to write a synthesis to follow at release time.

Hi Gilles,

Do not work too much over Christmas and New Year. We can wait until Nicolas is
available again. An update of AppImage is enough.

Maik Qualmann
Perhaps we should still write that with the migration tool now an import /
export from the core database to MySQL or SQLite works without data loss.
