Hello. digiKam is not properly functional on my system. So I plan to format and system and build it again. Would it okay to use Ubuntu instead of Kubuntu (my current Linux distro)? (since digiKam uses many K packages and libraries) Regards Swati ᐧ

Ubuntu and Kubuntu use the same repositories so it doesn't matter. The difference is just what selection of packages and desktop environment you get when you install. /PhilipOn Tue, May 10, 2016 at 9:38 PM, Swati Lodha <[hidden email]> wrote:

If I remember correctly, I was able to compile KF5 digikam without too many problems on Plasma 5 Kubuntu. I am using Archlinux as my ultimate development machine, since it always has the newest(and the buggiest) packages, so I don't need to compile anything from sources. But Archlinux is quite difficult to configure for someone who tries it for the first time. You can give it a try. Or Kubuntu should also be good enough. On Tue, May 10, 2016 at 11:28 PM, Gilles Caulier <[hidden email]> wrote:

Well thank you Veaceslav. Kubuntu 16.04 released recently. Using it won't it be an issue in near future? ᐧ On Wed, May 11, 2016 at 3:30 AM, Veaceslav Munteanu <[hidden email]> wrote:

I have built packages of both digikam 4.14 and digikam 5 beta on (k)ubuntu 16.04 without any problem (except you can't built geolocation support with digikam 4.14 as Marble is only provided for QT5 out of the box). Digikam 5 betas will build with official (k)ubuntu 16.04 packages. /Philip /Philip On May 11, 2016 00:28, "Swati Lodha" <[hidden email]> wrote:

Mine is Mageia Linux, Cauldron currently (next release 6). This Linux box integrate very well KDE technologies. The guy who package Plasma and KF5 and Qt5, release also digiKam tarballs source code ! So digiKam is very well integrated. But Mageia 5 is old now and use a non stable KF5 release. This is why i work on beta version of Mageia. So, i cannot recommend Mageia 6 for you. The system can be unstable in time when update is processed.
