Ran Microsoft Debugview spotted a rouge jpg file in my collection, so deleted it and it appears to have fixed the issue. I noticed that anything I tried to do with this file (copy open etc) caused the disk to max out. It also appeared to the the reason DigiKam wasn't terminating properly as it was leaving a background process running. After I deleted the file the backgound process was no longer running and DigiKam closed OK.
I'll keep an eye one it, but looks like that was the problem. I've attached the log anyway, just in case it helps.

Activate the debug output by setting an environment variable in the Windows
environment editor.
Variable:
QT_LOGGING_RULES
Value:
digikam.*=true
Download DebugView from Microsoft and run it. Start digiKam and upload the
messages from DebugView here.
Maik
I have been using DigiKam for awhile now and really love it. But today I
noticed that after running DigiKam7.1.0 the disk where my collection is
maxes out at 100% the moment I launchDigikam. I have turned off "auto scan
for new files on startup" Thedrive completely slows down dramatically for
any access, read/write or evenjust changing folders. Closing DigiKam didn't
change the performance and when Ilooked in system processes DigiKam.exe was
still running. The moment I manuallyended the process my disk performance
returned to normal.
I tried migrating the data baseto my main C drive (ssd) but there was no
change - and although the databasewas copied to my SSD it appeared that
DigiKam was still using the copy on my"D" drive where it was originally and
where my photo collection is.
Anyone able to help? as unless Ican find a solution DigiKam for me will be
unusable
Thanks
Dai

One question, does anyone know if it's possible to get the latest
weekly builds (like the ones that can be found in appimage format at
https://files.kde.org/digikam/), but using flatpak? I am aware of the
digikam flatpak release on flathub, but I don't know if there's a
branch for weekly builds too.

Hi Giles
Thanks for the v.quick response.
I have enabled the KDE CI for Fedora 32 but I still can't get the 7.2 Beta!
There does appear to be some problems on the page you link to
Front page; https://kde.org/applications/en/graphics/org.kde.digikam
says "7.0.0-rc June 7, 2020" is the latest version
Status;
https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/Flatpak/job/Digikam_flatpak/HTTP
gives "ERROR 404 Not Found"
Configuration:
https://invent.kde.org/kde/flatpak-kde-applications/-/blob/master/org.kde.di
gikam.remoteapp (hook) ./org.kde.digikam.json
Displays page with warning "Project
'kde/flatpak-kde-applications' was moved to
'packaging/flatpak-kde-applications'. Please update any links and bookmarks
that may still have the old path."
Has there been some more recent change to the build process that's not
reflected in these pages?
Thanks, Phil

Yes, on this repository, the flapak version is the current development
version, not the stable.
We don't maintain the FlatHub version. If it is outdated, you can
report this problem
to the github project here :
https://github.com/flathub/org.kde.digikam/issues/14
As you can see, the problem have been already reported (:-)))...
