Question to users of my PPA with Digikam for Ubuntu.

Hi everyone I have question for users of my PPA with Digikam packages for Ubuntu (I have about 2000 users that download my Digikam packages for the moment). Would you like the PPA to stay as pure with the official Ubuntu packages for each Ubuntu release as possible and mostly update Digikam packages. Philip, you know my answer already ;-)
exiv2 0.25 has a lot of bug fixes and enhancements. I'd love to see it packaged and avaiiable to all. Hi Philip,
First thank you very much for providing the PPA, it is much appreciated. My preference would be to include the latest versions of all components, however I am happy to get the latest version of DK even if it does not have the very latest components. Keep up the good work! Note :Exiv2 update to 0.25 is VERY important due to a huge list of bugfixes, especially about video files support. Exiv2 0.24 is not a TLS version and the problem is the delay between version. 0.24 to 0.25 => 1,5 y I hope to see more Exiv2 releases in the future. 2/3 month with bugfixes will be the best. Don't forget that Exiv2 is used everywhere in digiKam. It's a critical dependency. I just uploaded updated versions of exiv2, lensfun and libraw to at the moment latest tarball releases and rebuild of digikam for them for (*)ubuntu 14.10 (utopic) to my PPA. trusty and vivid get the same kind of updates later tonight. I would take advantage of this topic for a question out of it, related to the issue I am having (and it seems to be general) using your PPA in Mint 17.1 KDE version. It seems that for a priority question (sorry for my non technical words) your PPA is not used instead of repository version which is now 4.0.0. Could it be safe the use of some methods I found online to force the system to use your PPA. Have you any other simpler suggestion? Antonio, Yes you can but that is a Linux Mint problem and not a Ubuntu problem. Linux Mint use Pin-Priority to lock out what it considers unstable or experimental packages sources. This is used in Debian too to hold back packages in stable from installing packages from Debian unstable or experimental. Ubuntu work a bit different with its release cycles. Why Linux Mint do as it does I don't know as it's based on Ubuntu otherwise and I'm not that used to changing Pin-Priority and Launchpad sources are listed as 500.On Mon, Jun 29, 2015 at 8:01 PM, Antonio Trincone <[hidden email]> wrote:

I run the PPA on Mint 17 Cinnamon and it works fine, I did not have
to change any priority. I am no expert but if there is anything I
can test to help you please let me know.

Yes it is the LTS release, based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. It is
available with several front ends, Cinnamon (fork of Gnome), KDE and
Xfce.

Dear Philip,
First of all thank for the amazing work you have done on the PPA. I have some difficulties because, as others, I use a Fuji XT1 with XTRANS sensor, hence I need to keep up with updates on libraw. I am wondering whether it would be worth to have a big package with all dependencies updated, but all the other standard media packages use the standard libraries. Would that be possible? Alan, I didn't change the description in this release. I just copied that from the ubuntu/debian package description. If it should be a wide spread change it should be something the debian package maintainer change as Ubuntu get it from them. Digikam 4.11.0 with exiv2 0.25, libraw 0.16.2 and lensfun 0.3.1 for trusty is buildning on launchpad as I write this. I haven't had the opportunity to test many other packages or software on trusty that use libraw or lensfun if they have any problems with these system updates. If you run into problems then let me know and I can release rebuilds of them to support the updates if something crash.
