Chandra, Markus: Hi All
First let's hope all addresses I use for this email are the correct ones. Sorry if not. I can confirm the solution mentioned by Chandra to comment out lines like so: #ATTRS{idVendor}=="07b4", ATTRS{idProduct}=="0109", MODE="0664", GROUP="plugdev The line above (about 4 or 5 instances of it, IINM .. :) is here, on a relatively fresh Debian/unstable in: /etc/udev/libgphoto2.rules There's also a link to that file: $ ls -l /etc/udev/rules.d/025_libgphoto2.rules lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 Apr 7 2006 /etc/udev/rules.d/025_libgphoto2.rules -> ../libgphoto2.rules The camera here is an Olympus C370Z. Before that solution, /dev/sda1, which is the xd picture card in the device, could not be started/attached to the system since quite a few days in KDE. sda1 *could* be seen in FVWM tho', IIRC ... and I'm not sure whether FVWM uses the triggers in /etc/udev.d/ ... I'm not sure, but i think the camera was much easier attached to the computer, in KDE, many months ago (i.e. a year ago, or so?) when being plugged in - without rewriting /etc/udev/libgphoto2.rules. The computer is a Powerbook5,8 (aka alubook5,8) The system here, as already mentioned, is Debian/unstable, last full software update for most packages was done today. KDE version: Release 3.5.9 udev: 114, as it seems Kernel: 2.6.26-rc5 Thanks a lot to Markus Meissner and Chandra Chandrasekhar: Good work, fine solution. Please let me know if you need more information. Using libgphoto2 2.4.1 this would not be a problem, the ID is not generated there anymore. Debian unstable here: $ apt-cache policy libgphoto2-2 libgphoto2-2: Installed: 2.4.0-9 Candidate: 2.4.0-9 Looks like I'll have to wait a bit until this version is available on Debian .. :) Thanks for your fast response.
