YES. And i use everyday in my RAW workflow. It's my preferred photo
format (better than TIFF)

EXIF, IPTC, and XMP are supported.

Sound like a problem with your Exiv2 library. Which version you use
(here 0.18.1).

Ok, so, you need at least Exiv2 0.18.0 to be able to writte metadata
in PNG. I recommend to use last stable 0.18.1

To be able to use new Exiv2, you need to recompile libkexiv2 and after
digiKam and kipi-plugins.

Perhaps packages already exist in a repository...
