Map for editing geolocation

David Talmage-2
Today, I tried for the first time the geolocation editing feature of
digiKam.  I'm not getting a map in the Image -> Geolocation -> Edit
Coordinates dialog.  Can anyone help me, please?

I ran strings(1) on the plugin (/usr/lib/kde3/kipiplugin_gpssync.so) and
discovered that it might want gpsbabel, so I installed that.  It didn't
change anything.

I'm running this on an Asus EEE PC 1000 with Ubuntu 8.10, Gnome 2.24.1,
digiKam 0.9.4, and Kipi Plugins 0.1.5.  I have all of the Ubuntu package
updates through this morning.

I've got the same bug since I upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 to 8.10.
I think there's a bug on ubuntu 8.10 because evething works fine in 8.04.
At this time, i'm using Google Earth to collect GPS coordinate and copy them in Digikam, until the bug is solved.
But if somebody has a solution, I'm quite interested!!! :-)

I just had a look at the edit coordinates dialog, and when opening it I also cannot see the google map. But if I click and drag a bit with the mouse in the empty place where the map should be, it appears and can be used for setting the coordinates.

Best,
Gandalf

FWIW, I ran strings(1) again and discovered some URLs.  This one loads a
blank web page:

http://digikam3rdparty.free.fr/gpslocator/getlonlatalt.php

There is HTML and Javascript in it but it doesn't seem to do anything.

This one yields a little triangle:
http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/kml/pal4/icon60.png

This one gives 404 Not Found:
http://earth.google.com/kml/2.1

This is similar to Bug 167286
()http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167286), which is fixed in svn and
to be delivered in kipi-plugins 0.1.7.

I don't see that behavior.  You're lucky! :-)

I used the latest 0.10-svn, maybe that makes the difference?

I have current svn version of 0.9.x and 0.10.x and appropriate
kipi-plugins - in both version geolocationa plugin works OK.

First time loading lasts some time.

I have the same problem. I wrote about it on the list earlier (last oktober)
together with the fact that closing the dialog in any way, digiKam crashes.
Since then I downloaded and compiled several svn-versions of exiv2,
digikam-libs and digikam-graphics. The problem still isn't solved.
