Hi all,
I have noticed that Digikam and Darktable have a slightly different way in writing out the xmp files. Is there anything I need to be aware of when using Digikam and Darktable together in my workflow? I am using star rating, tags, comments, geo location. Thank you. I've been using darktable together with digikam for some time now and as far as I can see there are no compatability issues. The only problem which I have is in openning a second image from digikam in darktable. This will not work well. So for now it's: open image, do your thing, export and close darktable before you open the next image. Darktable by default will not reread xmp sidecar files. So if you change something in digikam (ratings, tags) darktable will not show it. I am not sure if darktable will overwrite all changes. I asked on the darktable developer list if this will change in near future and I was told that this (using darktable with digikam or simmilar) is not a workflow any of the developer is using an with this has a very low priority. What is the way digikam handles changes in sidecar files from outside? My workflow stats with darktable to develop, choose keepers. Then to Digikam for tagging/archiving and back to darktable for export.
For darktable to pick up the Digikam metadata, I remove the pics and add the folder again. Hence they get re-read and carry the metadata.
Digikam has a function to re-read metadata from file but in my experience doesn't pick up all the darktable-written data nicely. Hence I tag in Digikam.

I'm also using darktable with digikam. My understanding is that darktable has some photo management functionality, but the development focus remains on raw processing and other programs like digikam are expected to handle any non-trivial photo management requirements.
