How to remove an album with our deleating files

TKR
I want to deleat an album, but I do not want to delete the files it points to from my hard disk. How can I do that?

You can't but I wish you could. It is a long standing wish item.

Thanks for the reply. Not being able to remove an album without removing the images it points to is a deal killer for me. This is too bad because I really like much about Digikam. I will probably move on to iMatch which does treat its catalog as a true virtual arrangement even though I prefer Digikam in many ways over iMatch.

I would assume that if you want to keep the photos, you will want them
in another album?
I move pictures between albums all the time - drag and drop, confirm
Move to: when the pop-up asks.
When the old album is empty, delete it.
Or am I missing something?

I just thought about moving the pictures, removing the now empty folder from
digikam, and move images back, but I think on the next start, the folder gets
indexed by digikam again. So what you would need is a filter to stop digikam
recognize specific folders. Is this correct?

I think Digikam use the physical files tree. If you don't want the pictures in Digikam, you just have to move them in a directory outside the album root.

I like the idea of moving the pictures between folders to "hide" them
from DK when removing the album.

However, another way can be to remove the relevant tables from the
database file directly using e.g. SQLiteman. If you're not unfamiliar
with SQL that shouldn't be too hard, I think. But anyhow, you'd probably
like to make a backup first, hence I think the first solution is
easier.

I am a little surprised DK doesn't have this feature already, because it
should be easy to clear the relevant fields in the database? But I may
be missing something.

However, another way can be to remove the relevant tables from the

They'll reappear next time you'll hit Refresh, or re-launch Digikam.
As I previously said, Digikam is based on the physical directories; you have to use that in order to tell him what is inside/outside its domain.

Ah, I see! So if you just move your photos out of the DK base path, then
hit Refresh, the moved albums/directories will be flushed out of the DB?
