File number in renaming

digikam-2
DK 5.7.0 on archlinux.

Is there a "file number" function in the renaming?

DSCF1234.RAF.

I want the 1234 that I want to keep. Right now I'm doing
[file]{range:4,8}. This works if all the files are named aaaa9999 but
sometimes they are named: what-ever-name-20171105-1234.xxx

I want to keep the 1234, I don't want to start a new counter. An
right now I have to do this manually, instead of a batch or a whole
album...

If you run kde you can try krename, which can do this. Just run

krename <folder> &

where <folder> is the name of the directory, then you can batch rename
all images in the folder by assembling subsequent file names, with
renumbering.

I just went to the website. Interesting.

I don't need any download from the camera. I always copy from card
and place them in some directory, then from that directory:

1. I rename
2. I cull

Can I run in within DK? or at least at the same time as DK (DK left
screen, Rapid right screen)? and would that affect DK?

RPD can "download" from any folder including the ones that are already on your computer so you should be able to just rename / re-sort the ones you already copied to your HDD.
I use it with DK, haven't faced any issues yet.

Best regards,
