So,
With Flickr offering video support and it being the first mainstream media posting site to support both video and photo... and also it being fairly well integrated with digikam. And also... with a simple video editor being a big request on Ubuntu Brainstorms (is there some sort of KDE brainstorms?) http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/131/ ...I have to ask what's the current status of video support in Digikam, and what are the future plans? I tried googling on the topic and all I found was that there is basic support for videos in digikam, but I couldn't even find the specs as to what formats are supported, nor what playback engine it uses. Is there any plan to extend the flickr support to include video yet... or should I be inquiring on a different mailing list about that? Finally, the really big question. Are there any plans for basic video editing in Digikam? I don't think video editing is essential, in fact digikam could just launch annother video editing application to edit clips, but ideally there would be some extremely simple implimentation within digikam. Most people wouldn't need a lot, most likely just the ability to cut or splice clips, add subtitles/titling and music, and some sort of export to some basic video formats. Just curious. Thanks, -Mike mmeiser.com/blog _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

Have even a qt interface (additionnaly to the gtk one - buggy, but this can improve) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://clairedodin.voices.com/ http://www.clairedodin.com/ http://claire.dodin.net/ _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

With KDE3, the best one is Kaffeine which use Xine in background. With KDE4, we use now Phonon (Xine too) So, all formats supported by Xine can be displayed in digiKam... > > I tried googling on the topic and all I found was that there is basic > support for videos in digikam, but I couldn't even find the specs as > to what formats are supported, nor what playback engine it uses. > > Is there any plan to extend the flickr support to include video yet... > or should I be inquiring on a different mailing list about that? This is something to do for FlickrExport kipi-plugin maintener. Thi sis not coded in digiKAm core. The interface between digiKam and this plugin is already ready to handle video files. So only the plugin need to be fixed to play with Flickr video management. > > Finally, the really big question. Are there any plans for basic video > editing in Digikam? No, and never. Use KDenLive which is a promise application. > > I don't think video editing is essential, in fact digikam could just > launch annother video editing application to edit clips, but ideally > there would be some extremely simple implimentation within digikam. No its'nt. I know very well the problem, i have played with KDenLive team in the pass. > Most people wouldn't need a lot, most likely just the ability to cut > or splice clips, add subtitles/titling and music, and some sort of > export to some basic video formats. > > Just curious. > Best Gilles Caulier > Thanks, > > -Mike > mmeiser.com/blog > _______________________________________________ > Digikam-users mailing list > [hidden email] > https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users > _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

I see little debugging versus more functions (adding HD support when the product is so unstable, why?) - used to be extremely fast and now is often so slow as nearly unusable. Hope this will improve. any way, there is a real need for a video editing soft, maybe a kdenlive_simplified, with limited tracks, diapos view, basic cut and paste, a little like shofoto versus GIMP :-) not to say Digikam Have anything to do with it... however, photo cameras videos are often very special versus camcorder ones and here there may be a digikam entry jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://clairedodin.voices.com/ http://www.clairedodin.com/ http://claire.dodin.net/ _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |
So, let me get this straight Avidmux, Kaffeine, Kdenlive are what you
all recommend keeping an eye on for basic video editing. Just to be clear though Digikam is dedicated to supporting the management and basic playback of video files including copying them off the camera right? I completely understand and even agree with your position on video editing, but there's still definitely a need for Digikam to handle all the media that comes off a digitial camera. Even if it's an audio only file. So to clarify, what video formats does Digikam support? -Mike On Fri, Apr 11, 2008 at 5:39 AM, jdd <[hidden email]> wrote: > Gilles Caulier a écrit : > > > > No its'nt. Oh, and note to sell, I should try out video uploading with the
Digikam Flickr plugin and find the mailing list or developer for that and give them some feedback Peace, -Mike mmeiser.com/blog On Mon, Apr 14, 2008 at 4:42 AM, Mike Meiser <[hidden email]> wrote: > So, let me get this straight Avidmux, Kaffeine, Kdenlive are what you > all recommend keeping an eye on for basic video editing. > > Just to be clear though Digikam is dedicated to supporting the > management and basic playback of video files including copying them > off the camera right? > > I completely understand and even agree with your position on video > editing, but there's still definitely a need for Digikam to handle all > the media that comes off a digitial camera. Of course right Xine or Mplayer codecs must be installed on your computer. Thanks Giles, that clarifies it for me pretty well.
