[Digikam-devel] [Bug 138158] New: Allow to edit multiple image tags/comments at same time.

http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=138158
Summary: Allow to edit multiple image tags/comments at same time.
           Product: digikam
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Debian testing
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: rsante eresmas net

Version:           0.9.x (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Debian testing/unstable Packages
OS:                Linux

I think may be useful to allow to set tags/comments for multiple images at the same time. When classifying large collections of images is very slow to set the same comment/tag to diferent images one by one.

I think a tristate dialog is a good option, as KDE file permissions dialog: on, to set a tag to the selected images; off, to unset a tag to selected images and tristate, to leave that tag without changes on selected images.

Ricardo,

Note : this is already possible using the picture context menu from Album GUI,
or using Drag and drop with left sidebar.

Of course, this is not work yet using Comment & Tags sidebar

Recently I came across the same problem like Ricardo some days ago and thought
that the behaviour was a bug:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137207

Why would it make sense to use the context menu of a photo to tag  several
photos at one time whereas the tag side bar at the right side does not allow
the user to do this. This is confusing. Recently I someone asked me for a
software that he could use to tag photos. As recommended digikam. The first
thing he asked was why he wasn't able to set one tag to multiple photos at
once. He had tried to do this using the right tag sidebar.

And now I am completely confused since Caulier said, that tagging (I mean
assigning  tags to) multible photos is possible with the left tag sidebar?
How can this be? Selecting a tag in the left tag sidebar simply selects and
shows photos that have the tag I just selected already set. How could I set
one tag to a set of selected photos in one of my albums this way?

Sorry for the confusion (:=)))...

But not form the left sidebar ("My Tags"), but from right sidebar ("Tags Filters")

Take a selection of pictures from an album and drag & drop a tag from "Tags Filters".

...or...

Take a selection of pictures from an album, lauch picture popup menu, and select "Assign Tag".

About Comments & Tags side bar, it's in TODO list. time missing to do it before 0.9.0 final release.

Ah, thanks, I see. But perhaps there is still time to make things more
intuitive:

Since dragging icons from the tag-filter tab is I think not intuitive if there
is actually a second side tab explicitly made for setting tags. So it would
be intuitive to be able to drag the icons from this tab.

Thats actually what I tried (and where my intuition failed :-) ) and I never
had the idea to drag icons from the tag *filter* tab on the photos for this
purpose because filtering and setting of tags are two very seperate things.

So perhaps it would make things a lot better if one could drag icons from both
tabs in order to tag multiple photo at once if this is not too much work for
the release plan.

Thanks
Rainer

I think it is solved for comments with latest metadata editor
kipi-plugin and for tags it was always working with drag'n'drop.

I agree that having the right sidebar only tag the first selected image when multiple are selected is confusing and looks lika a bug.  The expected behavior is that clicking a tag with multiple pictures selected tags all the selected pictures.

Also, isn't this a duplicate of Bug #131600?

Aren't all topics mentioned in this thread solved
in current svn so that this can be closed?

Yes, this file can be closed since multiple selection of item is support by Comments & Tags sidebar tab since Marcel commit #624738
