Summary: Digikam fails to connect to Fuji Finepix S7000
                    (Konquerer works fine)
           Product: digikam
           Version: 0.8.2
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: piers raw-pleasure com au

Version:           0.8.2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages
OS:                Linux

If I type in media:/sda1/DCIM in the location bar of Konquerer it displays images from my Fuji Finepix fine.

When I plug it in and turn it on Kubuntu recognises it and mounts fine.

When I choose Camera / browse media:/sda1 Digikam reports "Failed to List Files in /sda1" (should that have media:/ in front of it?)

When I go through and (in Digikam) tell it to Add Camera and choose Fuji Finepix S7000 and then choose "Browse Fuji Finepix S7000 (PictBridge Mode)" Digikam reports "Failed to Connect to Camera. Please make sure it's connected and turned on. Would you like to try again?"

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that this camera stores images in a subfolder (/DCIM) or something.

I'm on Kubuntu Edgy Eft, using an Intel P-4, connecting a Fujifinepix S7000 by USB.

It's a vanilla install that came with Kubuntu (I haven't added any plugins)

If the camera is "mounted" and the files can be listed by konqueror, I assume it is in USB mass storage mode, just like any USB stick?
Then this is different from "PictBridge" mode, which is a completely different protocol and handled completely different under the hood (using libgphoto2). This explains the failure using "Add camera".

You are using 0.8.2, which is the stable branch but all development effort is going to the 0.9 branch which is going to be released at Christmas. Don't expect any bug fixes for 0.8.2. I would recommend you to test 0.9.0-beta3, and report back if the error still exists.

Same here also with kubuntu edgy eft and a Nikon D50. It's configured as mass storage.
digikam is called like this:
 5995 ?        S      0:05 digikam --download-from media:/sda1

Apparently it doesn't handle the "media:" protocol but just uses the path part, i.e. /sda1.

with a recent libgphoto, ie 2.2.0 and up, you can "download" from USB Mass Storage cameras if they are mounted. auto-detect even works on it.

Yes, I am closing this bug.
If there is any new information with current versions of digikam and
gphoto, don't hesitate to re-open.
