I manage to run Google Picasa under wine and found these extremely useful and newbie-friendly features that I feel digikam should implement asap:

1. Collage of selected images -- There are choices of pile, grid etc
2. Simpler interface to manage image effects and tuning.

Hope to see these in upcoming versions!

asap? when you need it asap, provide a patch.

What shall we do with your report? As Tom already said, provide screenshots or a concept how to change it. Tell us about what you don't like _and_ how it would be better. I close this report, feel free to reopen, when you spend some time to tell us how to change the things you don't like.

Hi, I also wanted to note that it is not a 'bug' that i wanted to submit. There is an option that says 'wishlist' and i chose that. Maybe it needs to be more specific its clear that its *not* a bug to be fixed.

Also, asap was more a 'wish' so one can get rid of running Windows programs under wine. As for comments on interface, my wife is a complete newbie with linux and she's been using digikam for quite sometime. However, she now leans towards Picasa (under wine) although its slower. She reckons it does things she wants -- easily.

Apologies if it sounded as if I discovered a bug that needed to be fixed.

I will try and post more screenshots.

It was clear, that this wasn't a bug but a wish.
But for a wish it is even more importent to give more information than "your interface is too heavy for newbies, so change it".
And asap... people who spends most of its little spare time, developing a free program tend to overact when they read "asap" in their reports ;-)

#1 : Ok.

#2 : Simpler interface may imply putting most often used commands like Sharpen, auto-level correction, etc as buttons on a side panel. Also, the buttons can be large with thumbnails on them that show a preview of what to expect after the effect is applied to the selected photo.
Typical functions I do each time on a picture is Brightness/Contrast, Auto-level correction, sharpen/blur. As an advanced feature, the button panel can be configurable so one can choose the most common functions on it.
Currently, digikam gives a treasure of filters and adjustments one can do only the're hidden in multi-level menus.
The button-panel should make it very newbie friendly and attractive to use.

- Large button on side pannel : no, we respect GUI guideline from KDE project to still homogenous.

- I you speak about main tool bar from Image Editor, This is completly configurable.

- I recommend you to take a look at web project site on Screenshots section. The 0.9.0-beta1 is in the way and all image plugins GUI have been polished. I recommend you to test this implementation using svn trunk branch and that you give a feedback.
