Digikam crashes in Ubuntu 10.04

Chris Green
I have just upgraded from Xubuntu 9.10 to Xubuntu 10.04, digikam
(version 1.20) now dies with a segmentation fault at startup.  A
Google search shows that this bug has been reported (several times!)
but I can't see any fix or workaround.

Is there a fix for Digikam on Ubuntu 10.04 on the way?  Or should I
try and build/install version 1.30, or what?

I am running this configuration with no problem. Have you tried to
un-install and re-install DK from the repositories?

I have had these problems running Debian and an earlier 1.2 version. In my case it worked fine running Digikam as a different user!! In KDE you can set another user in the K menu editor. This do not solve the problem but if it works, as it did for me, perhaps it can work as a practical solution until next bug-free version is released.

Yes, I just tried that too, it works as another user, wierd.

Might it be worth deleting the database files? Will digikam rebuild
them completely?

I think you'd lose all tags and captions for RAW files in that case, as those
are only stored in the database (writing to RAW isn't really supported atm)

I don't have any raw files so that's not a problem.  I'll move the .db
files away and try again.

No, that still dies.

I suppose the other thing to try is to get rid of my digikam
configuration files....

No, still dies after removing *everything* I could find in my home
directory related to Digikam.  However if I run as another user with a
symbolic link to my pictures directory it works OK.

I also updated to Ubuntu 10.04 (from 8.04, 8,10, 9.04, 9.10) and got the
same crashes as my regular user, but not as a new test-user. I fixed it
by deleting .gconf/system. This directory didn't exist in the $HOME of
the test-user.

I hope this works for you too, but please backup this dir just in case.

Gerben
