Hi,
Some months ago I posted about 0.9.3 on FreeBSD 6.3 not being able to find my Canon EOS400D camera. To recap, digikam had been working fine under FreeBSD from 0.8.x (can't remember the exact version) to 0.9.2. gphoto worked fine from the command line. Despite posting here and on FreeBSD forums and spending many hours trying to get it working, including installing FreeBSD 7.0, and installing FreeBSD 6.3 and 7.0 on another PC (to eliminate hardware issues) I never solved the problem and decided to wait until 0.9.4 to see if the problems went away (I couldn't get svn to build under FreeBSD). I have now installed Linux - Kubuntu 0.8.4 - on my main PC (dual booting with FreeBSD) and guess what? Digikam 0.9.3 doesn't work properly under that either!!! It _will_ connect to the camera, but it is a bit hit and miss taking several attempts. Most of the time I get the message "Unable to connect to camera [...] Retry Abort. As under FreeBSD, gphoto works fine. Kubuntu also detects the camera being attached every time - the pop-up asking what I want to do. This is becoming a real PITA. I decided to use digikam for managing my digital photos (back at 0.8.x) as it is the best *nix application I've found by far. I now have something like 12GB of photos, catalogued, commented, and sorted so switching to another package will be a major task (if I can find another app I like as much as digikam). So, can anyone offer any help in getting this problem resolved? I am not committed to Kubuntu (in fact there are some aspects of it - mainly the package manager - that I don't like) so would be prepared to try a different Linux distro. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to hear about your problems to which I also don't have any good idea. The only thing coming to my mind is an alternative approach: buy yourself a card-reader (which is not that expensive), mount that as usb-drive and copy over the files to the corresponding directory below your digikam tree. Of course, this is no solution to the original problem, but just a work-around ... Maybe someone else has a better idea how to debug the real problem. Best, Arnd --------------------------------------------------------- Really you should be using a card reader instead of hooking the camera up directly. I have the 40D and use Digikam exclusively this way on PCLOS with no problems. Card readers are much faster than the camera as well. Not sure if you have the camera set correctly to PTP or what ever it's supposed to be, but that may be the problem as well. Second, Canon camera drivers is a mess in gphoto2. it's not the fault to gphoto2 developpers, but the complexity to test with Canon stuff... If you google "canon + gphoto2 + digiKam", you will see than you is not alone (:=)) note : If you want to help gphoto2 team contact developper into #gphoto irc channel best Gilles Caulier _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

But going back to 0.9.2 (even with the latest version of gphoto2) it worked OK. Also, gphoto2 works OK from the command line so the problem seems to be something to do with the interface between digikam and gphoto2. The reason I prefer to d/l from the camera rather than a card reader is that the camera marks the photos as downloaded so next time I connect the camera I can just do Select->New items in the digikam camera dialogue and it automatically selects only those photos taken since the last d/l. I'll get a card reader though as it will make life easier. Will the svn build instructions work OK on (K)Ubuntu? I'd like to give 0.9.4 a try. What Linux distro do you use to develop digikam? Regards, Mark P.S. I am not criticizing you and the other developers about this problem, digikam is a great product and I really do want to keep using it, I'm getting a bit frustrated about it :( _______________________________________________ Digikam-users mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-users |

And only Canon cameras have this download flag. With KDE4 port, a new flags has been introduced in database to identify which files has ben already downloaded from a camera. We use KDE4 Solid interface to get ID of media. > > I'll get a card reader though as it will make life easier. > > Will the svn build instructions work OK on (K)Ubuntu?
