I think it could be a good idea: more file formats supported by digiKam,
better for users.

Well, i'm currently working on.

I have already backported the patch for dcraw 8.24 in libkdcraw 8.54. I work
but it require libtiff.

I'm currently working to use the dcraw technic to write TIFF file without
libtiff (yes DNG files are TIFF files).

After, i will add the capability to write Exif and makernote metadata.

In fact, we will have a RAW to DNG converter for linux at soon.

I think, it would be very good.  More and more commercial and free
Windows-Apps are supporting this format.  And I can imagine,
especially in the (semi)-pro area, users will look for features
like this.
