[Bug 273137] New: Make XMP Side Car Files Hiddem

Bugzilla from i@mohamedmalik.com
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=273137

Summary: Make XMP Side Car Files Hiddem
           Product: digikam
           Version: 2.0.0
          Platform: Ubuntu Packages
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: wishlist
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Metadata
        AssignedTo: [hidden email]
        ReportedBy: [hidden email]

Version:           2.0.0 (using KDE 4.6.2)
OS:                Linux

At the moment XMP side car files are in the same location as the image file.
Making them hidden by default or using a separate database for that would be
great

Reproducible: Didn't try

Expected Results:
Make Hidden Or Use A Separate Database

This is a non sence for me to make a new database dedicated to store XMP
sidecar.

The goal of sidecar is interroperability with other softwares. If you don't
care about it, don't create sidecar with right config...

How about a way to configure where the files are stored and perhaps how they
are named? One pet peeve about picasa is that it stores that .ini file in each
folder. I would want it to look at the files there but store its data about
them elsewhere. This goes for MS Windows - using thumbs.db is fine but again I
do not want it to appear there in the directory with my pictures. And now the
same with digikam.

Thanks for the good work and I look forward to your suggestions and further
improvements.

If you want no extra files, do not use sidecars. If you do not want to touch
your files, store metadata only in your database, the place of which you can
configure btw.
XMP sidecars are a standard format. As the name suggest, a sidecar needs to be
beside the main image.
