When comparing two images on the light table and (as is unfortunately standard)
both images are scaled to fit and the left sidebar with EXIF and IPTC
information is closed and if you open that sidebar the left image is rescaled
to fit the new size of the splitted view but not the right one. Effectively
they now are displayed at different scales.

Hmm I can not confirm this, can you take a screenshot?
Are you using images of different dimensions or orientations?

Image showing the bug in action

This time I had to play with the magnification a little bit beforehand
(increasing scale once and then down again so that the images fit the window
completely) without the sidebars visible) but I managed to reproduce, the only
difference is that this time the image on the other side from the recently
opened sidebar isn't scaled properly. If you wonder, the left has a scale of
16%, the right one of 13%, 16% was scaled to fit before opening the left
sidebar, 13% is the new scale to fit the available space.

I cannot reproduce here either.
Can you reproduce reliably? Does it depend on the size of the two images?

I can reliably reproduce with the method described in my last post. The images
have to be fairly large...

I'm not sure if it's the same issue though I have this behaviour:

I open two images side by side. Images are scaled to fit. I enlarege one of the
images to 100% scale, because synchronizing is turned on, I expect the second
image to scale on 100% too - though this not happening. I drag the scaled
image to move view, just then the other images scaled and moved in sync.

Also I think when scaling to 100% it would be much better if I it's viewed in
center, where commonly is focus,  not in the upper left corner...

As far as my report, yes, the behaviour seems quite erratic for me. Sometimes
scale is synced, sometimes not.

In case of the images of different orientation or size, the sync button is
greyed, but sometimes not. I think whole idea of disabling the feature for
different sized and oriented image is ill-conceived. - Even for the images of
different size, it still make a lot of sense to compare them on 1:1 or other
scale.  

Taking it all, the behaviour of sync feature is more or less unpredictable now
and even less intuitive then before.
