Version:           0.10.0 (using KDE 4.3.1)
OS:                Linux
Installed from:    Fedora RPMs

After showing a Slideshow, the screen turns black after one minute of
inactivity. It is like a screensaver was somehow activated. Digikam doesn't
have to be running anymore, the screen will turn black nonetheless. After a
reboot kde behaves normal again (xscreensaver kicks in after 30 min of
inactivity)

If so, try kipiPlugins 0.7.0, I fixed a lot of bugs in this plugin.

Normal Slideshow. But if i remember correctly, with AdvancedSlideshow it's the
same. I will test it to confirm the point

Tested digikam AdvancedSlideshow with openGL slideshow transitions. No problems
here. Seems that only the normal slideshow is affected.

The normal slideshow is not available in gwenview, at least it is not the
slideshow of digiKam :)
AdvancedSlideshow is a KIPI-plugin and is used in digiKam and gwenview.

So the normal slideshow is not working for you? The one under
View->Slideshow->All (F9) ??

The bug described above happens when using:
1. digikam slideshow -> All (F9)
2. Gwenview View -> start slideshow

Everything works fine when using:
digikam Advanced Slideshow ALT + SHIFT + F9 with "openGL slideshow
transintions"

When using dikikam Advanced Slideshow without "openGL slideshow transitions"
(this is new, just tested it) the screen turns black, no picture is shown, I
can only see the mouse pointer. No esc, tab etc. works. I have to kill X with
CTRL + ALT + Backspace.

So when it is happening in digiKam, kipi-plugins and gwenview's builtin
slideshow, there is nothing we can do.
This seems to be a video driver issue or something similar.

I will close this one now as unmaintained, maybe you can verify your problem
and report back, so we can either close it forever or re-assign it to some KDE
component.

The problem still exists. Is there any way I can find the component that is
causing this? Any logfiles? Some debug-mode I can turn on? I really would like
to provide you the necessary information but I have no clue where to look.
The behaviour is always reproducible.

As I said before, I would say this is a graphics driver issue. You are
experiencing this problem in three different places, and the code of the three
modules is completely independent.
So I doubt that we can help, at least we at the digiKam team.

What graphics card do you use? Have you tried the plain "vesa" driver and
compare results?

I have not used other drivers as my dual screen setup does not work with them.
So I guess I have to live with the problem. But thanks for your help anyways.
