Version:           0.10.0-beta8 (using 4.1.96 (KDE 4.1.96 (KDE 4.2 RC1)),
Kubuntu packages)
Compiler:          cc
OS:                Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.27-11-generic

The main view (which shows image thumbnails of the albums) is completely blank
after I installed v0.10.0-beta8. It worked fine with the KDE3 version.
Installed from tarball. This message is printed in the console, each time I
click on an album

digikam(14740): couldn't create slave: "Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Unknown protocol 'digikamalbums'.
"

digiKam kioslave are not installed at the right place (typically in KDE path)

Are you set all environment variables before to compile and install digiKam ?

This problem is relevant of digiKam KIO slaves which are dropped since version
5.0.0 in favor of a multithreaded interface to query the database. It will not
reproducible.
