Look like the crash appears in libgphoto2. Camera is Canon, in PTP mode
certainly.

Which libgphoto2 you use. Go to digiKam Help/Components Info dialog for
details.

while running gphoto2 -auto-detect (not --au...)

found a command described as one that should be should run before moaning to
gphoto mob

env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --debug-logfile=my-logfile.txt -auto-detect


it which generated a large wodge of output, reading the output indicates that
it did something (no idea what) but camera now appears to be downloading OK

alas, hold that though, downloaded three avi files and then failure

re-ran command in previous comment (black magic incantation principle)
downloaded a few more

failure )

then stopped working

deleted a few of the success stories, (another black magic incantation) then
got

"failed to delete (continue?)"

then got

"failed to retrieve..."
