1.2.0 release : February 28 ?

Marcel, Johannes,

What do you think to release digiKam 1.2 at Sunday February 28 ? It's
sound enough to stabilize Album tree-view model view port ?

For me it's sound suitable as well and ready to be published in
production. If we release 1.3.0 one month later again, it let's time
to stabilize and fix last minor pending bugs.

What do you think about ?

why 1.2.0 and not 1.1.1 instead? i mean if it is meant

as a bug fixing release...

Why so fast anyway? The poor splashscreen contributors... their splash is only seen for 3 weeks now... :-)

Because we need feedback about model view port. Also, i'm really
satisfied by kipi-plugins rhythm (one release by month). We have a
good feedback in bugzilla, and users can see the project very active.
Look like Amarok apply the same cycle of release.

I'm convinced that people don't test really indeep beta. If current
code can be published for production, why not...

It's not a bugfix release. Album tree-view Model view port is not
bugfix but a lots of code change.

For the tree views it should be all right.
I have some code almost ready here to have the thumbbar using model/view - for
now at least the thumbbar in the preview view. I can commit today or tomorrow
and you all have a look at it during the weekend. It's mostly reusing code,
but you never know.
The lighttable, image editor and showfoto thumbbars require some more work. We
can do this step-by-step.

When do we want to merge the MySQL branch? For 1.3 or 1.4? Holger said it
would be all right for him to merge sooner rather than later.

This is another argument to release at end of february. I propose to
do it just after 1.2.0 release.

Marcel,

Today, i see a problem with Album Icon View and Copy & paste.

I plug an USB key to copy some items to print in photograph office.
USB key is open in dolphin.

I select 2 items which follow side by side from icon view and i paste
it to root of USB key.

The first one is copied fine, but when 2nd one is copied, it try to
overwritre the first one.

I cancel operation and i go back to icon view. I select only the
missing one and i try again. Same problem. It try to copy the first
one again, not the last selected.

I don't have tested to copy and paste trough digiKam collection.

Note : to copy & paste, i always use contectual menu, not keyboard shortcuts.

Can you reproduce it.

yes, if option is enabled in setup. At least to have an homogenous
interface everywhere...

I found very suitable to see count of items in this view, especially
when collection is huge.

The AlbumManager emits signalPAlbumsDirty() only when something changed. When
a new dialog is created, the model will never have seen this signal.
It seems we need to cache the result in AlbumManager.

Hm, there are still a lot of small usability glitches in the gui
concerning the new features. I don't know if we can remove them
completely in one week.

BTW, the packagers for the distros will have a tough job with one
release every month ;)

2 weeks you want mean, until 28 February (:=)))

If you need more time, let's me hear. But i would to not wait more and
more, if we want to merge MySql branch properly in trunk...

But releasing more periodically is fine and clean for users and bugs
report. It give a good activity to the project project. Visibility is
good, we will certainly see more and more patch and contributor in the
future, and take the right development speed and rhythm.

It think it's the good way. I can feel that for kipi-plugins since few
month, as we release it each month.

Well who really missed those releases are often users, don't know who
always backport them to stable versions of distro...
