xmp file or sidecards

ozzyprv

Does DigiKam use separate xmp files (sidecards) like some other programs (Lr, darktable, etc)?
I think all the info generate during the use of DigiKam is stored in the .db and writing to the file is optional.

I ask this question because my collection is growing and I fear that if the .db gets corrupted and I haven't written the tags, captions, etc to the files I will loose everything.

Thanks.

if I understand well this could also simplify the syn of the metadata
from web gallery to local images (merging xml should be easy)
