writing keywords in hierarchical way in IPT field

Georges Joseph JOULAUD
Hello,

I start to use Digikam (3.1.0 on KDE 4.10.5 with Mageia3) to tag my
photos in place of Pixvue and I would like to know how to write the
Digikam selected keywords available in hierachical way to the IPTC
keywords field keeping the same hierarchical way by using slash (/)
character as separator.

exemple :
I tag a picture with  my keywords animals -> birds -> swallow available
in hierarchical way on the rigth side of Digikam with parents keywords
selected
and I would like to fill keyword IPTC field with only
"animals/birds/swallow"
and not as independant keywords "animals, birds, swallow" as it acts
actually

1- note that it is filled in XMP field using | as separator

2- note I used the slash separator (/) because I remember previous
Digikam version proposed it and then I used this method with pixvue
software to emulate this hierarchy.

3- note that reading back a picture tagged in this way generate the
expected hierarchy where final keyword is selected but not the parents
keywords.

Sorry if I'm not clear

Regards
Thanks

Which tags exactly you want to use for compatibility with Pixvue ?

You cannot setup rules to write tags actually. It's planed to add an
advanced config panel for metadata.

We need also files already tagged into Pixvue to test tags import in digiKam.

Hello,

Thanks for taking inti account my question.
I'am not familiar with the procedure  and I suppose my email will be added to the discussion on this topic: isn't it ?
So, I would like to know how I have to proceed to send picture file already tagged with Pixvue .
If it is the right way, I can attach one in the next email.

ok

I'm not familiar with Digikam users, so, do you have a specific Digikam cloud to put pictures ?
If not, I can use Hightail service for attaching ...

tell me ...

Hello,

you will find attached links of two samples with keywords tags written by Pixvue
If I remember, the tagging method using slash (/) in the keywords field with this tool comes from the observation of Digikam trials in a previous version (1.2.0) (I join a sample of picture file too)

Xmp.dc.subject                               XmpBag      2  Evenement/vacances de Noel, Personne/famille

Both use Xmp.dc.subject to store tags paths separated by '/'.

I think this way is wrong. LightRoom (and digiKam) do not work like this. Both store keyworks composing tags path in this field, not the full tags path as well. Ex :

Evenement, vacances de Noel, Personne, famille

LR and digiKam store tags paths  into Xmp.lr.hierarchicalSubject as for ex : Evenements|WE_Pentecote|smalaINSA taken from your 3rd file.

digiKam store tag paths into a dedicated digiKam XMP namespace tag named Xmp.digiKam.TagsList as for ex : Evenements/WE_Pentecote/smalaINSA

So, if i change the rules over Xmp.dc.subject to import tag paths following PixVue model, i will break compatibility with LR...

Re: writing keywords in hierarchical way in IPT field

Georges Joseph JOULAUD
Hello,

first I would thank you for your answers.
I understand Digikam has a different behaviour than Pixvue and no compatibility because of LigthRoom, isn't it ?
So, to memorize the keywords in hierarchical way, I need to use XMP fields (Xmp.digiKam.TagsList or Xmp.lr.hierarchicalSubject), not IPTC fields, isn't it?
So, I need to adapt myself if I want to follow with Digikam (because Pixvue doesn't work in Windows7).

Another way would be to use XnViewMP (either Windows, either Linux) that seems working fine.
Moreover, for IPTC/XMP fields, it allows (as Pixvue) batch process what it seems not possible with Digikam : the trials I have done (using Metadata editor = MetadataEdit plugin) need to process each file one by one even if several picture files are selected and inside each file, applying modifications are taken into account only on the active sheet  (either IPTC, either XMP).

But perhaps it would be better to open a new subject for that ?
