workflow question

Wojciech Jarosz
I recently bought a digital SLR camera and am using digiKam with it. I
had a question about workflow:

I set up my camera to save both RAW + JPEG images. However, browsing
albums that contains both versions is repetitive when viewing the
images fullsize and using PgDwn/PgUp to browse. It also shows two
copies of the image when scrolling the main view. Therefore, I wanted
a simple way to filter the current displayed images (something like
amarok's search ability).

I was able to get the desired effect by setting up an advanced search
that displayed only images from a particular album but that also
contained ".JPG." However, this was pretty cumbersome and time
consuming, e.g. I had to create an advanced search, add more than one
search criterion using the GUI, and save the search with a unique
name. Is there a simpler way to filter the display of images when
browsing?

For anyone else that saves in both RAW + JPEG, how do you deal with workflow?

thanks,
-w

Not that I know of.
I think your wish is perfectly valid and also related to

Personally, I download (via a card-reader) both RAW and JPEG to one
hard-disk with a certain directory structure
(year/month_descriptive_label)
then only the jpegs are copied onto another disk, with the
same directory structure. This one is used
by digikam. By this I have a backup of my images from the
beginning and only deal with the smaller jpegs.
For those images, where I want to do some manipulations,
the master raw can be used.

Not sure if this is the optimal approach,
but there are many possible solutions ...
In any case the most important point is to have a backup
of your images on several disks, preferrably at different places ...

Best, Arnd

I have an Olympus DSLR.

It's RAW format is saved as .orf (Olympus RAW format), to
which I must apply specific color profiles (.icc).

Normally I download RAW's and JPG's into two different
subfolders.
On the RAW side I delete most of the pictures, I keep only
the best. Those I can then use as a base for further
processing.
The JPG's serve for documenting my activities, and maybe
some web work or emailing friends.

Please filter for extension when downloading the images from the camera. In
the download widget there is an option that automatically creates
extention-based subalbums : JPG and RAW
