view vs. edit mode

roessli bertrand
Hello,

can it be that in the view mode the pictures are slightly less sharp then in the editing mode or
it 's just me who is never happy?

thanks,

Bertrand

Preview uses smaller image (scalled down) for display, while editor uses full
image. This may cause the difference that you observe.

Bertrand,

For any performance reason, view mode use :

- With JPEG files, a reduced size image loading.
- With RAW files, the reduced embeded JPEG image provided by camera (this is not the RAW image data in fact)
- With other files format like PNG and TIFF witch support IPTC, the reduced JPEG preview image. This one is embeded by digiKam image editor and kipi RAW converter into IPTC preview tag.

Regards

Gilles Caulier

It's not only Bertrand who notices this - me too was wondering about those
quality differences.

These are the main reason why I never use view mode but always edit mode - to be
fair I have to admit that my Pentium-M 1.6 GHz computer is adequately fast for
this abuse.

I noticed that the lighttable uses view mode, too. Could this be made
configurable, as for quality/sharpness comparisons the scaled down view mode
seems not to be appropriate. If it would be possible, I would prefer to open two
edit windows, but digikam does not allow me to do so.
