to Phillips

Antonio Trincone
I have had problem today with Digikam related to Phillips PPA, I suppose. I had Digikam2 installed from this PPA version 2.1.1 and properly working but Panorama tool as some know here.

First, after an update related to digikam (do not remember what) the K-menù entry for Digikam disappear completely. So I reset eliminating PPA and installing Digikam 1.9.0 and all worked properly.
Then I resign for the PPA of Phillip and try to install Digikam (instead of Digikam2) which now appear to be in the versione 2.2.0. (obviously after eliminating Digikam 1.9.0).
 Infact all started properly with new splash screen of 2.2.0 but soon it disappears.

Starting by terminal command I obtained the following lines:

tonino@tonino-System-Product-Name:~$ digikam
QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'ConnectionTest' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.
X Error: BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter) 5
  Major opcode: 19 (X_DeleteProperty)
  Resource id:  0x0
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: File o directory non esistente
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/tonino/.config/ibus/bus
digikam: symbol lookup error: digikam: undefined symbol: _ZN11KExiv2Iface14AltLangStrEdit15setLinesVisibleEj
tonino@tonino-System-Product-Name:~$

any help?
ciao
Antonio

Re: to Phillips

Philip Johnsson
When you get an error message like "digikam: undefined symbol:
_ZN11KExiv2Iface14AltLangStrEdit15setLinesVisibleEj" it almost always
mean that you are running with a version of digikam that uses
libraries for digikam that digikam wasn't built against. This is
usually that you either run a version of kde that Digikam isn't built
against or that you haven't updated all the digikam dependent library
packages that digikam comes with and you find on my PPA.

So start with checking which version of kde you use and then which of
my PPAs you use and finally that all those packages have upgraded as
they should.

/Philip

Hi,

I haven't been following this thread thoroughly, but I would like to
share my experiences with the upgrade. I looked at it more closely after
I found that the upload to flickr wouldn't work - digikam crashed each
time I tried to do an upload.

I do on my Linux Mint system regular system updates, and it seems that
digikam 2.2 was offered from Phillips' ppa (though I haven't seen it in
the list), but it tried to install a new version of libkgeomap1, and
this got unresolved dependencies. It needed libkgeomap-data, but when I
wanted to install that, digikam2 was to be removed. I checked the rep
and saw that digikam (without "2") with version 2.2 was being available,
so I let synaptic remove the digikam2 and related packages. I had to
manually remove some packages. Then I installed digikam version 2.2, and
now it works fine again.
The automatic system upgrade didn't remove the old digikam2 version, but
it seems that some library that is used by digikam was upgraded and
caused problems. I cannot reproduce it in detail, sorry.

Re: to Phillips

Hi Martin
this is more or less (can't be precise) what happened to me too (I see difficulties in installing libkgeomap1). Just one difference with my case digikam 2.2 from PPA does not work fine as for you.

I have to thank Phillips for the effort in explaining me what in theory could be possible. I check libraries and file dependency and all seems to be ok to my (not expert) eyes.

Now that the beta of Oneiric is just on line I think I will upload it and try to install Digi 2.2 from (K)ubuntu repositories.

Thank you to all
Antonio

Re: to Phillips

Philip Johnsson
Thanks for the feedback on libkgeomap1. I'll try to set some rules
that solves that in the packages.

Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) will only have Digikam 2.1.1 and not Digikam
2.2.0 so in that regard Digikam with those packages will be old even
before Oneiric is released as final. That's how it is as Ubuntu is no
rolling release distro and that is of course fine for moste people but
not if you want the latest goodies in a fine program as Digikam.

/Philip

MySQL DB migration

Ignatius Reilly
OK, I gave another try at migrating from SQLite to MySQL after upgrading
to Ubuntu 11.10 and the DK 2.2.0 version from the Philip Jonhson ppa

It works, sort of: the digikam DB is correctly migrated, but not the
thumbnails one

For the thumbnails DB I extracted and adapted for MySQL the DDL from
SQLite Manager, and inserted the necessary settings value. Here is the
result:

-- phpMyAdmin SQL Dump
-- version 3.3.8.1
-- http://www.phpmyadmin.net
--
-- Host: localhost:3306
-- Generation Time: Oct 30, 2011 at 06:58 PM
-- Server version: 5.1.58
-- PHP Version: 5.3.6-13ubuntu3.2

SET SQL_MODE="NO_AUTO_VALUE_ON_ZERO";

/*!40101 SET @OLD_CHARACTER_SET_CLIENT=@@CHARACTER_SET_CLIENT */;
/*!40101 SET @OLD_CHARACTER_SET_RESULTS=@@CHARACTER_SET_RESULTS */;
/*!40101 SET @OLD_COLLATION_CONNECTION=@@COLLATION_CONNECTION */;
/*!40101 SET NAMES utf8 */;
