Sound like a broken installation. Please use always official mandriva RPM or a
better way, compile and install yourself from source tarball.

wayne, i'm using mandriva 2005 and 2006 in my office and at home to develop
and use digiKam _without_ problem. The system installation is by default. No
need to install exotic rpm !
